Then again, no one really complained that much in the 1st 13 games.

I agree with that GM. But only in pass protection and short yardage and consistency. We've seen a couple games where one DL can wreck the entire OL. But man, when they are hitting in the run blocking like the first 7-8 weeks, they put up 175-200 yard games which means JG had the fewest passing attempts by a country mile, hence "better" pass protection. Ha. But then teams started stacking the box, forcing pass protection and it wasn't very pretty. Kyle countered like Payton/Brees did against our pass rush...a 2.4 TTT (insanely quick passes). JG was top 3 almost all year and tops when both Skule and Brunskill had to start. IMHO, Kyle recognizes PP is our biggest weakness on offense and has worked around it as best he can. Masterful actually.
But it's definitely going to be more of an issue with Richburg out. So far this year, he was the best of a weaker pass protecting unit. Garland is another good run blocker but poor in PP...same with Person and Tomlinson and Staley and McGlinchey have certainly had their PP issues this year too to say the least.
2 more games to get healthy and gain continuity with Garland.

arrow up! Weird what happens when QB play improves
I will agree they need to improve at IOL.

Haha. In raw numbers for sure.
Keys:
1. Lead the league in rushing
2. Have one of the fastest TTT QB
3. Have a masterful HC who can scheme around key losses at T, C, RB, WR, FB, TE
Honestly, Kyle Shanahan has done a masterful job and this raw stat reflects it. That to me is a HC reflecting in the off season and adjusting (creating) his scheme. He's certainly dropped the ball too and is still learning/growing as a game management HC. But fans should be very encouraged. He learns. And his ego seems to be getting more and more humble with each game without losing his confidence.

I still watch teams who have QB's that sit back their all day and rarely get touched (or at least long stretches). I'm envious. Garoppolo would destroy teams if he could just relax, fully trust his consistent protection and find that 3rd and 4th and 5th read at day. I know this scheme sacrifices PP for better mobile run blockers but it's still a dream of mine.

Man - the interior of the offensive line had issues all game against Atlanta. That, combined with so-so play from Jimmy and a couple of miscues effectively cost the 49ers the game.

Its almost like the starting center went on IR or something.

Yep, only the QB is more important to the offense than the center.
Most fans only see the physical performance but the blocking calls are even more important.

Grady Jarrett would've beat the s**t out of Brunskill. Let's stop pretending anyone on this team was going to stop him.
In fact, very few OL in the league stop that man.
