I sure did. Believe me when Joe and McG the next week went down, I couldn't believe it. But 1st Skule and then Brunskill came in and played way better than i had thot possible..Kyle DID , however, have TEs a step or so outside them and slightly behind initially and later also, but as it turned out, with the games already played, Skule and Brunskill just over impressed and then some.
It would be curious to know if kyle and JL both knew that those two guys were that good, that capable. IIRC, didn't Brunskill play TE at SD State? He bulked up later, but he is capable of getting up and blocking not just on the LOS but downfield. Both OTs have done that...admirably. My hat is off to kyle for a) talent recognition, and b) for helping both guys out initially with TEs and RBs. It made all the difference.
As for the interior OLs, Richburg is obviously healed and hats off to him for gutting out all last yr injured. Guy is amazing. As for temporary OGs, man they have both come on. Laken looks to have just needed good coaching, and Person, a true backup, has now progressed to legitmate starter. I expected more of same from last yr, but JL and kyle must have known or they wouldn't have been content to let them play.
All 5 guys CURRENTLY starting , have been superb beyond belief. But last yr at this time if you would have said both McG and Joe go down and we still come out okay on OL....i would have laughed. Now we can get an OT later in draft...it isn't a must any more...assuming no more injuries. Losing Coleman was just an insult...our swing OT. Winning with OT #4 and #5...gotta put kyle in running for COTY.
Well, that and his mind blowing play calling, also.
