Kilgore is overpaid? He is going to make $1,750,000 this year.

Kilgore was not our starter. And has not proven he will be. To my knowledge we have not cut the old guy who gets paid too much but we should.

Goodwin is currently not on the team. Lol you know absolutely nothing about the 49ers.

The old guy, Goodwin, is not on the team. He does not get paid anything next year by the 49ers. He is a free agent. We can not cut a free agent.

- Restructure Gabbert. Can save around 750k-1m
- Trade LaMichael James or release him before Week 1.
- Possible cuts in training camp: Snyder, Dobbs, Dahl or Baldwin.
- Prime extension candidates to lower '14 cap hit: Vernon Davis, Glen Dorsey or Alex Boone.
- Restructure Gore to an incentive based contract in '14. Add a year to extend to '15 that is a club option.

Gabbert and James are good ones. Baldwin would be good cut. Gore restructure is necessary IMO.
Cut Gabbert

They will probably try to keep him and bring him back from the dead with better coaching. As we don't have a good backup. And he has some natural arm talent, size and athleticism.

Deal is guaranteed. He will restructure, and likely get extended a year or 2, to lessen the proration, or just a straight pay cut.

A few ways to create more cap room:

- Restructure Frank Gore, save a couple million.
- Extend Vernon Davis and/or Glenn Dorsey, save quite a few million.
- Cut veteran backups (Ventrone, Spillman, Snyder, and/or Skuta) to save a few million.

Skuta was ranked as ranked 15th out of the 42 OLB that played at least 25% of the snaps. (from PFF)
And he has played ILB in the past. He could help cover the loss of Bowman at the start of the season.

https://www.profootballfocus.com/data/by_position.php?tab=by_position&season=2013&pos=OLB4&stype=r&runpass=&teamid=-1&numsnaps=25&numgames=1

Spillman and Ventrone were 2nd and 3rd on the team in special team tackles.

edit: Skuta was tied for 5th in special team tackles.

https://www.profootballfocus.com/data/by_position.php?tab=by_position&season=2013&pos=ST&stype=r&runpass=&teamid=28&numsnaps=25&numgames=1

And our ST was bad in 2012, those guys were huge for us last season, need to stay good in those areas. We can create cap space many ways, we'll restructure with Gabbert and get a million or so, maybe guys like Dorsey, Ray Mac, Brooks, VD, Gore and many other vets could be extended and lower their cap #'s this year. If we truly want to sign one of these FAs we're looking at and need the room we'll make it happen. I'm sure a lot of this stuff is already in the works since we need more room than we currently have just to sign our draft picks.

I wasn't suggesting we would cut those players. Just providing possible ways to gain the cap room. And for the record, I'd get rid of Dahl before any of them.

True. Maybe he needs 6 years in the league to become something. ........
