they hate us because we're becoming the new cowboys in the sense that we grab headlines once again. I can guarantee you that even if SEA wins the SB, if you were to ask any fan of any team outside of the NFCW to list the four nfc west teams, they would name the 49ers first.

After seeing some of the postgame tweets from the postgame interviews, Willis's postgame made me realize that the SB was far from the issue here. When asked about that fumble at the goaline involving Bow, he said he wasn't even worried about that he was more worried about his bro. That was the perfect response I think to great end to a season. It wouldn't have been the same had they gone to the SB without Bow. Then I saw that fans were throwing food at Bow has he was being carted out..REALLY!!???! Let Seattle go to the SB and lose, let them feel how we felt last year. At the end of the day its about this team and their health. I just wish for Bow a great recovery for the 2014 season. As Willis said, he'll be with Bow every step of the way.
Great season everyone! It was a blast! Its going to be a long summer for me as the NFL is really the only sport I pay attention to. GO BRONCOS!
My anger has subsided a bit. Great post. Sucks for you though that you only like one sport. I love soccer too and the World Cup is this year. At least I'm looking forward to that and rooting for my country and USA. It will make this tough offseason a little more bearable than last year after losing the SB. I didn't watch ESPN or NFL network after the SB until September when the season started. Too painful. Hope next season is our lucky season! Can't wait for the draft.

It's closing. If Kaep doesn't have a top 3 defense he is toast. Lock onto one guy and don't read the whole field or go through progressions. Late in the game always throw up a prayer to Michael Crabtree and hope it works out. We can't win with him. He gets worse and worse with the game on the line. 3 turnovers in the 4th quarter. Montana got better and better with the game on the line. This is just the opposite. When our defense gets older and losses some FA's you will never see Kaep advance this far. Plus Gore is older and almost done.
Closing and almost closed.

Kaepernick needs to use his brain, dress like an adult, act like an adult, speak like an adult, and for the love of god learn to pass the ball. Being last place in yards all season is really hurting this team. Seriously, this team is stacked, and Colin is bottlenecking the 49ers. I know some people think he is a godsend, but when other teams don't blitz deliberately knowing Colin cannot throw, and he gets 17 yards all half as a result, something needs to change if this team wants to win a Superbowl. 3 turnovers in a row to end the season... shame.
Agree with the bolded.

We've got a 7-year window. Kap is only 26 and he should be still competitive into his early 30's. Manning and Brady are 37 each and still playing at a high level.

What are you seeing in Kaep to compare him to Brady and Manning? He plays nothing like them from the pocket. He can't read the field like they do. He doesn't go through progressions like they do. He doesn't have touch and accuracy like they do.

I'm not comparing his play to Manning or Brady, but his age.

I can name 29 other teams that would LOVE to have the past 3 seasons the 49ers have had.

That classless organization might win this.

You get a better perspective of the game after a few days. Kap was the whole offense, period. Did anyone on offense or special teams make a play? Our running attack was stopped at the line of scrimmage. Look at Seattle, five or six guys made plays. The 49er D was lights out and kept coming back. I thought we were dead several times in the 4th quarter but the D dug down deep. We played them even at their place with no calls going our way. Has the window closed on this team, definitely not. Watch what happens when we move into Levi Stadium, we'll be unbeatable. I am looking forward to Manning giving the Seahawks a little religion.

This is what it boils down to for me: Kaep has been making peanuts for far. Soon, he will be making $15-20m. When his salary is low, we have the luxury of surrounding him with more talent. Surrounding him with more talent means that we can mask some of his inefficiencies or weaknesses; the rest of the team can pick up the slack that he leaves. Well, when his salary skyrockets, we're going to have to clear cap space to retain him. Maybe that means letting go of someone like Boldin. Maybe it means losing someone like Iupati. Maybe it means losing Crabs.
Anyway, whether or not our window closes hinges a lot on Kaep's development. The roster will get weaker, in all likelihood. The question is, can Kaep develop to compensate for that? If he becomes, say, a better pocket passer that's better at going through progressions, we don't need three star receiving threats like Crab/Boldin/Davis -- we'll be able to get by with less (sort of like how Russell Wilson put up comparable numbers to Kaep with good-but-mediocre weapons).
However, if Kaep does not develop, or he stagnates a little bit, then we might be in trouble. Then the roster gets weaker, but quarterback play remains largely the same. That's a recipe for trouble. We might be closer to an 8-10 win team instead of a 10-12 win team.
If Kaep develops... we're fine. If not... then, sadly, I think our window may have closed. At least our window of being a clear-cut juggernaut. Not saying that if Kaep keeps playing like this that we'll be a 4-win team or something.

The window will close only if the offense does not evolve. This is NOT a west coast offense in any shape or form. Rather, Jim Harbaugh's offense is pretty much that neanderthal crap Ditka ran in Chicago. Credit to Jim though, his offense does use a lot of motion, which is a step up for Ditka's garbage. You can get away with running this stuff if you have the talent. However, when talent is not enough, when opposing defenses can scheme against it, it leaves much to be desired.
You know your offensive scheme and play calling is in trouble when the bulk of the offensive production falls on one guy--Mr. Kaepernick. It doesn't help that Boldin and Davis can't hold on to balls that hit them in the hands. It doesn't help that your blocking scheme in the running game is like a sieve. It is time to go back to the drawing board and innovate. Innovation is born out of crisis, and this offense is in crisis.
