oops...I swear that looks like Whitner...oh well, he's still a beast!
"that's just dre bein dre"
Some people forget this, but Roddy White actually stripped the ball away from us TWICE. Once when Nate Clements picked off a pass that wouldve sealed a win, but tried to score and got hit from behind, and then the next year when Dre Bly was returning a pick and started high stepping like 60 yards before the endzone, and got stripped like a tool. Both by White. SMH...

Same here. We were such a vanilla team under Singletary. I can't believe I believed in him haha.

PFF Rankings for the Atlanta Falcons

Top 3 Players On Offense

1. Justin Blalock-OG 7.9 Coming off a terrible game against the Redskins. Has been very good in pass protection, lousy as a run blocker.

2. Matt Ryan-QB 6.0 The wheels have come off the bus but Ryan remains consistent, still has an outstanding completion percentage, not playing as well as he did last season but still one of the very best QB's in the NFL.

3. Tony Gonzalez-TE 2.5 No big surprise, older, but still a dangerous threat, has been struggling terribly as a blocker, still a receiving weapon and red-zone threat.

3 Lowest Ranked Players on Offense

1. Lamar Holmes-OL -30.1 Holmes is the lowest ranked offensive lineman by PFF scoring. He's been terrible as a run blocker, even worse in pass blocking.

2. Peter Konz-OL -23.1 Better than Holmes, but not by much. Has been almost equally bad when it comes to pass blocking.

3. Roddy White-WR -2.8 Not a good season for him, injuries have taken their toll, he hasn't nearly looked the same but has been on an upwards tick over the past couple of weeks, still a dangerous receiving threat.

Defensive Player Rankings

Top 3 Players on Defense

1. Desmond Trufant-CB 8.6 Rookie corner has been up and down throughout the season but has been doing very well recently. Great size and athleticism.

2. Jordan Babineaux-DL 6.8 Veteran lineman has been effective in stuffing the run, hasn't brought much as a pass rusher.

3. Corey Peters -DT 5.7 Just like Babineaux, he's done well in stuffing the run, inconsistent when it comes to the pass rush.

3 Lowest Ranked Players On Defense

1. Paul Worilow-OLB -12.7 Terrible in pass coverage, also mediocre in terms of stopping the run, missed tackles are a specialty of his.

2. Thomas DeCoud-S -11.2 Has struggled in coverage, missed tackles, been caught out of position, bad season for him.

3. Sean Weatherspoon-OLB -10.2 Has missed most of the season due to injury, hasn't been anything to write home about when healthy.

Team Summary

Everyone knows what the Falcons are all about on offense. Julio Jones is down and out but Matt Ryan has still been playing very good football. Tony Gonzalez and Roddy White are still reliable threats, Harry Douglass has had some pretty good games this season. Steven Jackson is still Steven Jackson, has had a lot of injury issues but is relatively healthy. Still a ferocious power runner, one need only look at his touchdown run against the Redskins this past weekend for confirmation of that. They do have weaknesses, particularly on the offensive line, they've had some injury issues there but guys simply aren't performing well. Their pass blocking has been pretty bad, that's a huge weakness that hopefully the 49ers take advantage of. Matt Ryan's QB rating drops off about 25 points when he is blitzed. He has thrown 6 of his 14 INT's when blitzed.

On defense, their biggest weaknesses are in pass coverage and pass rush. Osi Umenyiora has been their best pass rusher with 7.5 sacks on the season. Nobody else has 4. They struggle to get consistent pressure on quarterbacks. On the back end, only Trufant has played particularly well. Trufant has been toasted a few times but has been consistently good for a rookie and has been improving as the season has gone on. Beyond him the rest of that secondary has struggled, not to say that there isn't talent there but they've been repeatedly victimized through the air. This would indeed be a good game for the 49ers to get their passing woes over with. Falcons linebackers have been terrible in coverage, 49ers should have an opportunity to work a lot of plays towards VD, McDonald, the RB's...etc. The Falcons defense has plenty of holes to attack, 49ers just need to take advantage of them.

LOL

lol good ole Dre Bly
Don't want to watch that play again that was one of the dumbest plays I have seen in 20 years of watching football. Who celebrates while trotting on their own 25? It's like he forgot that there were other players on the field besides Matt Ryan. Yeah that game really snowballed quickly. As for Bly too bad because he was solid for us besides that one play and had himself a nice career. The other one we should have won in ATL to just too bad Clements with a great play but there were other plays in that game that helped us blow it. One of the good plays from that one Taylor Mays had a sweet tip toe TD on a punt block. Those 2 games did a nice job summarizing the old 49ers, full of potential but hardly ever lived up to it. Frustrating as hell to watch.

The game that pissed me off more was at their house the next year. Up by 4 I believe so they need a TD (maybe they just needed a FG). Pin them back at their 5. They proceed to drive, get out to about the 30. Ryan throws a pick to Nate. He tries to return it for a TD and gets stripped at their 2 yard line and they recover. They then proceed to drive the length of the field to win the game.

Fuuuuccccckkk those were tough times.

Just checked, it was a FG they needed and got.
