Solution(s) to losing Crabs

Here's my take. Crabtree is a tremendous loss but it is what it is. Now, we will get to see how really creative harbaugh and roman are in using formations that will include rb/te combos to offset some of what will be missed from crabtree. Maybe lamichael and others will now have an even more expanded role. The only positive spin I can put on it is that it happened early enough for the coaching staff to adapt--that's what is keeping me from losing it.

I think we will roll with AJ and Patton. Both very talented young guys. Let them compete to start opposite Boldin.
Honestly, Boldin is capable of doing everything that Crabtree did for us.... which is making the tough catch over the middle and picking up 1st downs. We also added Vance McDonald, who is good for that as well.
Really this just puts more weight on the AJ/Patton competition cause the winner will be a starter until Manningham is at full strength.

Matthew Berry @MatthewBerryTMR
RT @ESPN_Numbers Colin Kaepernick completed 68.5% of his passes to Michael Crabtree last season & 58.4 to all other WR.

It's always bad to lose your #1 receiver, but if it were going to happen, the first day of OTA's is the optimum time. Everyone knows they have to step up. Everyone feels bad for Crabtree, but they know this is also an opportunity. Kaepernick has the maximum amount of time to build timing and rapport with any of the other receivers who can step up. It's bad, but it could have happened during the last pre-season game or with a month to go before the beginning of regular season games. That would have been a nightmare whereas this is a significant setback.

It's time for AJ to step up. And hopefully either Patton or Lockette will come up big this year.
Also, we probably rely heavily on TE sets.
I don't think there are any #1 WRs available in FA.

This is what we get for skimping on WR. Now our corps is a 100 year old Boldin and a bunch of kids with almost no experience.

That was more in response to a poster who suggested we tender Cruz (if that is even a possibility regardless of $$)
