That wont be a problem, the real problem is if one of them go down and then Boone goes down. Boone is by far a better tackle than any of the backups (look at last years AZ game). Snyder would move to guard where he was at least capable two years ago. Now if both go down... we are effed.

My 53

QB (3): C. Kaep, McCoy, Daniels

Daniels has more to offer to the roster than Tolzien, hence the reason he was cut, but Daniels won't be active on game days. Next season He'll be the #2 guy.

RB (4): Gore, Hunter, LMJ, Dixon (PUP: Lattimore)

Sorry folks, Dixon won't be going anywhere. Too versatile, and too important on ST to be cut.

FB (1): Miller

TE (3): Davis, McDonald, Celek/Gray

I'd like to see Gray beat out Celek for a roster spot. But either will make the 46.

WR (5): Boldin, Williams, Moore, Patton, Baldwin (PUP/IR: Crabs, Manningham)

We keep 5 because Manningham WILL be back at some point. But I highly doubt that Manningham is gonna be back in time to make a significant enough impact on the roster to be anything other than a 4th option at WR, especially since Patton showed with little time he got, and if Williams proves to be healthy. Unless we run into the injury bug at WR I just don't see a need to rush Manningham back unless we needed to. Unlike many here, I thought A. J. was gonna prove why JH & Co. spent a 1st on him. I thought he'd step up and claim that #2 spot. Man was I wrong!! Patton is the future to me.

RT: Davis, Snyder

RG: Boone, Looney

C: Goodwin, Kilgore

LG: Iupati, Looney

LT: Staley, Snyder

[Note]: 8 O-lineman.

Snyder can play all 5 spots and will be our swing man. Looney won't be active, but he and Kilgore are the future.

DL/NG (3): Williams, Dorsey, Jerod-Eddie

DE/DT (4): J. Smith, McDonald, Tukuafu

[Note]: 7 on the D-line

I think Williams starts over Dorsey. JH & Co. are gonna see their Okoye project through, so I really think that he'll will be back on the PS. We are gonna get rotation – good rotation – along the D-line this season. When Tank returns either Tukuafu or Jerod-Eddie is gone. I'd guess Jerod-Eddie will be the odd man out.

OLB (5): A. Smith, Brooks, Lemonier, Skuta, Johnson

Deep here. I thought Haralson was gonna be around for a while, but I understand the trade. Lemonier flashed all kinds of ability, and Cam Johnson has gotten MUCH better, but won't make the 46.

ILB (4): Willis, Bowman, Wilhoite, Moody

Man, Wilhoite really put a chock-hold on that #2 ILB spot. Before I was really concerned about the depth here, but he showed his ass.

CB (5): Brown, Asomugha, Rogers, Cox, Cooper

Cooper is gonna make the team. I think Cooper will be a steal and make the 46. Big physical CB aren't easy things to come by in the NFL. If we cut Cooper he won't last a day on the street; he's gonna make a 46 roster. With Asomugha the clear #3 (basically a starter these days) Brock will be out.

FS (3): Reid, Spillman, Robinson

SS (2): Whitner, Dahl

K (1): Dawson

P (1): Lee

LS (1): Jennings

Italicized won't be on the 46

Talent all up and down this roster. I think this season is perhaps the easiest 53 to predict. Plus, we have all kinds of talent stashed away on IR and PUP. We're set up to be talented for a long time.

I am officially going nuts. I think Jennings is gone. The more I dig into the numbers, If we keep Jennings, we may only have $1M in cap space. I didn't take in count all the extra players on IR, PUP, NFI, and then the PS.

what has Dobbs done to earn a roster spot?
I think Jennings is gone too as a cap casualty, and I wouldn't be surprised to see McCoy cut at some point halfway during the season, after I read about his workout bonuses in the article today. I can't shake off the suspicion we'll either cut BJ (that sounds nasty ) and stash him on the PS, or we keep 4 QBs until one of the PUP-ers is ready to come back in which case we cut McCoy.
[ Edited by paulk205 on Aug 29, 2013 at 3:55 AM ]
BTW, have we got any idea of BJ's ST work? I know about him "being used all over the place" but in what sort of manner? Punt protector perhaps (it would make sense for fakes)?

If he's really useful there, he might be kept as a 4th "QB", in which case I could see Wallace be among the gameday inactives.
Dobbs, tukuafu and cam johnson are easily replaceable.
Sorry for multiple posts. Getting used to this phone.

I'm not convinced baldwin makes the roster. Right now id rather have collie or jacobs instead of baldwin. This is more of a want than what I expect.

Baldwin won't make the roster? He's probably our third best receiver.

41. PK Phil Dawson
42. P Andy Lee
43. LS Brian Jennings
44. TE Garrett Celek
45. CB Tramaine Brock
46. DE Will Tukuafu

Inactive 7:

47. QB B.J. Daniels
48. LG/C Joe Looney
49. WR Jon Baldwin
50. OLB Cam Johnson
51. DE Tony Jerod-Eddie
52. TE MarQuies Gray or S Trenton Robinson or a WR
53. CB Marcus Cooper or Darryl Morris
54. DE Demarcus Dobbs (Suspended list for 1 week)

AB, fantastic job and VERY hard to argue any of these save for the #46 in Will Tukuafu. He would be replaced by Baldwin or ST aces such as TE MarQuies Gray or S Trenton Robinson, CB Marcus Cooper or Darryl Morris (gunner). It is possible someone could unseat Brock as well and Jennings might be out altogether; either replaced by Kevin McDermott or this position alleviated d/t Kilgore/Looney/Goodwin taking these snaps. But when you look at the 46, the other spots are pretty irrelevant (hardest to figure out too). They are Triple A while the Practice Squad is Double A ball.

Kilgore, Looney, or Goodwin will not become our long snapper. A specialist will handle the long snapping duties. Very possible we go with McDermott due to financial considerations, though.

And he has Tukuafu in there because only 4 active DLs isn't a great idea--regardless of Aldon and Brooks being able to play some down DE in a 4-man line.

After game 3: A few players have worked themselves into conversations but not much changed for me...yet!

Offense: (25)
QB (3): Colin Kaepernick, Colt McCoy and B.J. Daniels - Note: It will be the Seneca Wallace-show on Thursday (if we get no bidders for McCoy).
RB (4): Frank Gore, LaMichael James, Kendall Hunter and Anthony Dixon; Marcus Lattimore (PUP) - Note: Jewel Hampton had another good game yesterday and is just a work-horse in the Gore-mold. He is a better runner than James at this point IMHO.
FB (1): Bruce Miller - Note: It's very risky not to have a pure FB here. If Miller goes down, we're in big trouble. Dixon is not a good FB/blocker and often times misses pass blocking assignments. Jason Scheplar had a great game yesterday.
WR (6): X = Marlon Moore/Jon Baldwin --- Y = Kyle Williams/Chad Hall --- Z = Anquan Boldin/Quinton Patton; Mario Manningham & Michael Crabtree (PUP) - Note: Hall will be the #6 (he started with the #1's yesterday). BUT, if Lavelle Hawkins shows again on return abilities, he could very well push Hall right off the roster. Even Osgood could be a #7 here to back up Boldin at the Z and be that RZ threat and ST gunner (two tackles yesterday and always around the ball). And this ST unit continues to be under the microscope right now (as it should be).
TE (3): Vernon Davis, Vance McDonald and MarQueis Gray (H-Back) - Note: Garrett Celek is my surprise cut here b/c of the versatility Gray will provide plus he'll be a very good ST players as well. He even wears #46 in the Delanie Walker mold. Celek has not looked good this pre season and dropped another pass yesterday but had fantastic seal blocks. Could we go with 4 TE's and only 5 WR's given VD is going to be lined up "everywhere?"
OT (3): Joe Staley, Anthony Davis and Adam Snyder (Alex Boone); Luke Marquardt (PUP) - Note: Let's pray Marquardt is the real deal b/c right now, we have very poor T's behind the starters and one injury could very well mess with the OL's chemistry. Are we going after a veteran OT?
OG (3): Mike Iupati, Alex Boone and Joe Looney (Adam Snyder) - Note: Looney did not have a good game yesterday.
C (2): Jonathan Goodwin and Daniel Kilgore (Joe Looney) - Note: Jonathan Goodwin played well yesterday still may end up being a late veteran cut or restructures his contract for a backup role if Kilgore continue to play well.

Defense: (25)
DE (3): Justin Smith, Ray McDonald and Demarcus Dobbs; Quinton Dial & Tank Carradine (PUP) - Note: Lawrence Okoye played well yesterday and could very well end up on the PS.
NT (2): Ian Williams and Glenn Dorsey - Note: I anticipate Lamar Divens going to the practice squad to develop ala Ian Williams.
OLB (5): Aldon Smith, Ahmad Brooks, Corey Lemonier, Dan Skuta and Cameron Johnson - Note: Parys Haralson was just traded. Now, do we keep 4 OLB's or 5? I'll stay with Fangio's guy at #5 for now.
ILB (4): Patrick Willis, NaVorro Bowman, Michael Wilhoite and Nick Moody
CB (6): Tarell Brown, Carlos Rogers, Nnamdi Asomugha, Perrish Cox, Tramaine Brock and Marcus Cooper; Chris Culliver & Eric Wright (PUP) - Note: Darryl Morris is playing very well and has been playing fantastic in practice. It's not over yet. Both Cooper and Morris could very well end up pushing Brock off the roster but it's a long shot right now.
S (5): Donte Whitner, Eric Reid, Craig Dahl, C.J. Spillman and Trenton Robinson - Note: Trenton Robinson had a decent camp but is esp. good on the ST coverage unit.

Special Teams: (3)
PK: Phil Dawson
P: Andy Lee
LS: Kevin McDermott - Note: I go back and forth with Brian Jennings/Kevin McDermott daily...or both not making it at all (to save a roster spot and add ST coverage); Kilgore/Looney/Goodwin can all handle the LS duties opening up another roster spot for ST coverage.

Extras:
Final Spots: Chad Hall, MarQueis Gray, Cameron Johnson and Trenton Robinson are all vying for the final spots. Lavelle Hawkins could very well be in the mix against Hall IF he proves his return abilities (and 6th WR abilities) are for real/consistent.

Pre-Chargers game update. I think Gray had a much better camp overall then Celek but he'll have to do a it again tonight to unseat him as Celek (last game) demonstrated he's a good edge-sealing TE (dropped a great pass though). I think Gray just adds way too much versatility in the role of the other #46, Delanie Walker.

You'd rather have Chuck Jacobs than Jon Baldwin? Based on what?
