Former Jets head coach Eric Mangini, currently a broadcast analyst, has been in talks with the 49ers about a consulting position
Man Genius can stay away from us. He was a complete disaster in Cleveland.
They will probably ask his opinion and then do the complete opposite.
Maybe Fangio has hinted at retiring to Harbaugh this is Fangio eventual replacement

He has a good football mind. If the management think he's got something to offer, he'll be brought in. Besides, Cleveland was, is, and ever shall be a disaster... Kinda crazy to blame it on one guy that was only there briefly.

Eric Mangini attended an in-season 49ers practice in 2011 at Youngstown State.

i don't know what to think about this, but i think the more ex HC we have the better for us.
Isn't his specialty the secondary? Makes sense to bring him in given how our secondary performed in the playoffs. It did seem like teams were scheming against our secondary and the 49ers couldn't figure out how to re-adjuist. Maybe another defensive mind who specializes in the secondary can help avoid that in the future.

We have blocked Ed Donatell twice from interviewing for DC positions. His contract could be up,after this season and may get a DC gig. Mangina could be a backfill for Donatell.

He's one of Belichick's proteges...worked under some top notch head coaches in Ted Marchibroda, Belichick and Parcells. Has quite a bit of experience as defensive backfield coach and was BB's DC his last year in NE. I say bring him in...he's a bright guy and could be a nice addition.

RT @JasonLaCanfora: Mangini's role with the 49ers, if it came together, would be to assist the offense with ideas on how to prepare for certain defenses, etc
