Not a true NT though. He's a lot smaller, weight wise. I saw that he was 297 lbs and Soap was 330. We still don't have a true NT on the roster.

It will be fun to watch what this guy can do with the 49er coaching staff working with him. He may be something special, and he may not be, but if he comes at a bargain with his potential, then I'm glad to have him.

Jeff Deeney @PFF_Jeff Glenn Dorsey (good): Only played 4 games in 2012, but was 2nd among 3-4 DE in Run Stop % in 2010 (behind J. Smith) and 6th in 2011. #49ers
Jeff Deeney @PFF_Jeff Glenn Dorsey (bad): 32nd out of 37 3-4 DE in our Pass Rush Productivity Rating in 2010 and dead last in 2011. #49ers

He will probably take Soap's and RJF's snaps.

I trust the 49er coaches - especially Tomsula - to get him to play NT at at least an equal level to Soap, if not better in the long run.
Same with Williams replacing RJF.
Plus, there's always the draft for depth/competition.

Interesting.
We don't need a pass rusher from the NT, but run stuffer is always nice. I would prefer him to be a better pass rusher, but we can't be greedy now, lol

so he's a backup, not Soap's replacement.

I could see him flipping inside on passing downs with either Justin Smith or McDonald to give them a breather. They were on the field too much last year.

Which is fine - the NT in the 49ers scheme is not trying to rush the passer. His job is to tie up offensive linemen so the DEs/OLBs can rush the passer. That, and to be stout against the run, which is Dorsey's MO.

Then again, that 297 was from his combine....5 years ago! Call me crazy, but I bet he's put on a little weight since then.

He'll back up both ends and rush inside on a 4 man line. NT is Williams and one to come from the draft hopefully Brandon Williams.
