2011 by far, it provided a new starting point and new hope to the faithful.

Lol @ all the Alex haters picking 2012. Come on guys. We came out of nowhere in 2011. Comeback story of the year. For Alex, the Niners, the Yorks, our entire franchise. 6 comeback wins. The Catch III.
2012 - A Super Bowl loss. Our first SB loss. And that is more "meaningful" to you?
Please make it stop. Every single chance you guys get to bash Alex, or anyone who ever supported him, you take it. You guys make it impossible to just enjoy this team, because all you want to do is say "I told you so."

2011 easily. I know it sounds spoiled for me to say but it just was not as enjoyable a season for me this year. I disclaim this by first saying I'm as diehard as it gets with this team. But us throwing Alex to the bench and revamping our entire offense midseason, Justin Smith going down, the annoying trend of not showing up every 3 games.....The playoffs brought the excitement and intensity back but I really didn't enjoy the last 5-8 weeks of the regular season at all. That Seahawks buttkicking especially ruined it for me.
That being said I'm looking forward to great things in 2013.

Picking 2012 makes someone an Alex Hater?
You really need to get over it.

Picking 2012, and giving the reason of "finding our franchise QB," is a slight to Alex. Stop trying to hide it.
No one with any sense would say that a season ending in a Super Bowl loss is more "meaningful." Ridiculous.

Hmm, yeah, real tough. 2011.
this
2011 ended 10 straight years of sucking. It wasn't a process, it literally happened in just 2011.
If we won last Sunday it would've been 2012. But we didn't win

2011 because the Niners were finally back, they mattered in the NFL. In the NFC title game our defense was just magnificient, There was no way you would ever predict it would be the major downfall in 2012 that prevented the team from winning the Super Bowl.
2012 will be the year the Niners got the key piece of a championship team---the quarterback, and our offense is back to be a force to deal with.
I can't explain exactly why, but the 2011 loss to the Giants was more of an emotional blow than losing the Super Bowl in 2012.
The 1990 NFC title game loss and the 92 and 93 NFC title game losses to Dallas still rank as my top 3 emotional wrecks they left on my brain. Maybe because I am older now and realize just how special those times were, and we did have 5 Titles!
But I am very confident this new era of 49ers football is just starting and Super Bowl trophies will be coming again.

It's a slight to Shaun Hill, JT O'Sullivan, and every other quarterback we've had since Garcia, because Kap is better than all of them, including Alex.
Finding a franchise quarterback who everybody knows is special, especially non-49er fans who don't have a bias, is extremely important, and getting to the Super Bowl is far better than losing the NFC championship.

2011. A great turnaround year. The whole team scratched and clawed through surprising victory after victory.
People (including I) expected the 49ers to go deep in the playoffs. The only surprise, if any, was how well Kaepernick did down the stretch despite being inexperienced. However, the defense fall-off was particularly disappointing.

how is 2011 winning the vote?
the only thing better than the excitement of going to the Super Bowl is actually winning it
2011 was special and had some incredible moments but we went to New Orleans this year and discovered what we've got in Kaepernick
2012 confirms that 2011 wasnt a fluke and gives so much promise for the future.
I except 2013 to be even better

2011 offseason
lockout -> a group of players showing union and preparing themselves conscientiously for the challenge.
2011 season
magical season -> indescribable happiness -> the turnaround after years of frustration -> the proof that this group of players who suffered the dark years can play at a high level with a good coaching staff.
2012 offseason
Coach of the year award -> golf -> Manning -> backstabbing
2012 season
promising season -> new weapons, better offense, strong defense as usual -> concussion -> a coach's whim not based on sporting reasons -> backstabbing , experimental season -> still winning -> 1st and goal, 7 yard line, all the ingredients on the table for "The Catch IV" -> No Super Bowl
until we win a Super Bowl... the 2011 season will be the most meaningful.
