Ahmed Brooks for two successive plays on the drive that ended up in Bowman knocking down the pass. 2nd down he hits Ryan and separates his shoulder, which you can tell rattled Ryan. 3rd down Ryan rolls right and Brooks jumps to knock down the pass at the line of scrimmage. Pass was intended for White and had a chance of being completed.

Terrel Brown. After a dismal first half, he had a pretty damn good second half.

Ray McDonald, that's who. He was a monster in both the run game and collapsing the pocket. He made a few outstanding plays today and just gets overshadowed on this defensive unit loaded with stars. He was taking on two blockers almost every snap and he would just fight through them to make a play. Justin smith gets most of the attention on the line but McDonald is playing at just as a high level as anyone on defense right now.
Ray Mac was solid. Brooks capitalized on some plays because of what Ray did. Good job boys!

Actual question. Last week, we unveiled our new-age offense to the tune of the greatest dual-threat performance in the history of quarterbacking. Our offensive line was utterly dominant, Crabtree achieved superstar status, and our defense got stop after stop against an elite offense. Basically, all of our most obvious "strengths" were on display at the same time at a high level, making us unstoppable.
This week? Kaepernick was very sharp and efficient, but played more like a "normal" QB (impossible to knock his brilliant game, but still, you'd have to acknowledge Nolan "succeeded" in what was to be his biggest challenge, and/or we left our biggest advantage in our back pocket). Our line opened up some holes, but all in all they performed worse than last week despite facing an inferior D this time around. To top it off, the "key" of the game I was most sure about was that we would have to contain the big 3 receivers to have a chance. Abject failure. And yet we're on our way to New Orleans.
So while last week was a sort of "identity solidifying" performance, today we basically played just well enough in all phases to scrape by. As my euphoria is slowly subsiding, I'm trying to decipher what this means going forward. I'm inclined to think it's awesome that we can win in different ways and despite not playing perfectly. On the other hand, part of me thinks we were lucky to survive an all-around "off game."
Thoughts?

If we can get 4 solid quarters out of offense, defense, and special teams we can beat any team easily. The early funk needs to be ironed out.

IMHO,
I think the defense had an OFF game somewhat, giving up 24 points in one half...but they adjusted well in the 2nd.
Offensively, I think we were pretty good overall, if not for the Aker's miss and crabtree fumble, our offense would of put up 38 points.
I think that is what makes our offense so scary now, we can run virtually any formation, the pistol, power running game, traditional QB play from under center, etc.

Navarro Bowman. What a tough assignment on 4th down covering Roddy White and Bowman made the play!

Julio's first half had to be the best WR play I can remember watching in years. The way he could get open and the way the ball stuck to his hands no matter what. Frankly, he's like the best version of Crabtree plus 2 inches, 30 pounds, and a decent amount of top-end speed. Can't help but think Ryan didn't throw to him enough in the 2nd half.
Good point about the offense though. I shouldn't think of CK's lack of rushing yards as a "win" for the Falcons defensive scheme when our offense still functioned like a well oiled machine overall (consecutive TD drives, etc.).

I don't know why people act like its such a big deal to contain Kap. The Pistol is designed to open up lanes for the running back. So WE succeeded big time today.

kaepernick orchestrated a great offensive game for the team
play of the game may have been carlos rogers tackling gonzalez in open field on the 3rd down pass near falcons goalline--set up gonn punt return and game winning td,,gonzalez probably has 60 lbs on carlos
bruce miller sealed edge on two of gires td runs
