I wonder if this will be a confidence boost for Akers, knowing he beat out Cundiff.

Jim Harbaugh announced Thursday afternoon that Akers will retain his kicking duties after ranking 30th in the NFL in field-goal percentage (69.0) during the regular season. The 49ers signed Cundiff on Jan. 1, and he will remain on the roster. Harbaugh said Cundiff is unlikely to be active Saturday.
Unlikely to be active but if Akers screws up it means that Cundiff will probably be kicking in the NFCCG should we proceed.

I have no confidence in Akers. Most likely will miss a couple. Loses momentum and gives the other team good field position.

One thing that came out of this was, and I liked it, that Coach H had to make a decision to go for it on 4th and 2 from the 40. And you know what? We made a handful of those 4th downs. Now , maybe work harder on 1st down 3-5 yd passes, same on 2nd...or if D set right give it to Frank...and then we make a 1st. So what if it takes two tries. Having akers kick from a lot closer in is actually appealing to me, in that one of those times, we might just stick it in. Never know.
