no but we will probably have six penalties in the first quarter cuz that is what we do. any drive extending penalties by our alleged elite defense is just like a turnover cuz brady will make us pay for it.

Penalties have become a major concern. It suggests this team, particularly the defense, is not as disciplined as it needs to be to win big games. I lay this on the coaching staff. They should be sending a message that the stupid penalties are not acceptable, but it doesn't look like that message is getting home, if it is even being sent. 49ers are 4th most penalized team in the league. Penalties and TOs are two things SB winning teams do not do.

a lot of questionable calls

bowman penalty? Goldson has been flagged for hits that shouldnt have been?

the PI on brown was iffy as well
"questionable calls" are not the reason why we are the fourth most penalized team in the nfl in my opinion.

Running game has been spotty (take away two Kaepernick runs and the last two games have been mediocre a lot of the time; check the yardage). The Pat's will load the box to stop the run, probably. Also very poor play-calling tempo by Kaepernick killed/failed to establish offensive rythmn the last two games.

Niners on defense: Very good front seven, but poor starting corners and pass coverage. Brady is a super-star. He will exploit this weakness.

The Niners will have to keep the ball out of Brady's hands by slowly matriculating down the field when they have the ball. And then convert to TDs. Can they do this in Foxborough? A Niner win would be a major "beating the odds".

If the Niners lose, don't be too disappointed; they are still learning and their upward curve is steep.

This post is the only one that makes sense, but I'll still be disappointed.
so we are supposed to be ok with losing and maybe not winning our division just so the team can learn?? good lord. what exactly are we learning? why do you just not go ahead and say ck is learning and get it out there? i like ck but i am not ok with losing just so he can learn
Aw man, I'm REALLY looking forward to this game! This is as tough as it gets! Even the SB is in a neutral site. I like how the D always seems to play their best in these big night games. Especially Aldon Smith.

Also agree with this. I know many of the pentalties are earned, but I also feel like the constant griping from other coaches that we "get away with murder" is having an effect. The calls have been very one sided and many just reaked of home cooking.

It's funny that we're called the 'whiners' and it's been the opposing coaches that have been crying about how the Niners are being big meanies and 'totally grabbing at them'.

I think the Patriots are in for a rude awakening!

The Cards beat 'em, the Hawks beat 'em. Is it really necessary to remind ourselves that our gang has a stronger defense AND more dynamic offense then either of those?

Why the panic?
  • Because they whipped the Texans? Let me tell you, the Texans have been skating on thin ice for over a month now and it just broke on them last night. No shock.
  • Cause they managed to win a shootout with the mighty Bills? Oooo.
  • Cause they squeaked out an OT win over the Jets? wow...
  • Cause they beat the Fins by a TD. Now I'm really scared.

We on the other hand have been trying new things, bringing top draft picks up to speed, and preparing for the home stretch.

Final score: Niners 31, Patsies 13

This, get in Brady's face! You can run on them and play action off of that. Go Niners!

After the impressive performance vs. the Texans, a win in New England would really turn some heads. Can't wait for this game, but I really doubt we can win there. We just need one of these next two games!

Apparently Harbaugh is OK with that.
Fascinating game here, because the matchups are really strength vs strength. The Patriots' defense is a long way from being elite, but its biggest strength is stopping the run. Getting through Wilfork and Brandon Spikes is tough. Expect Belichick to try to take away Frank Gore, and make Kaepernick beat the Pats with his arm. There will likely be one-on-one matchups on the outside if the 49ers can capitalize on them.

When New England has the football, obviously the strength of the Niners is the pass rush. The Patriots weren't able to neutralize JJ Watt, just limit how much destruction he could wreak, and I expect with Aldon Smith it will be similar. Pats will come out running, mixed with pass plays designed to get the ball out of Brady's hands quickly.

Basically, I expect the Patriots offense to have to operate more conservatively than it is used to doing. This will keep the game close, and the question is if the rookie under center for SF can bring the kind of playmaking ability he's shown in flashes while limiting the mistakes. My guess would be that San Francisco moves the ball pretty well, but there's a crucial second-half turnover that makes the difference.

Pats by a touchdown imho. Hope it's a great contest!

Yes, it would.
Houston has some good players on Defense in Barwin, Watt and Joseph

but we have guys like Bowman, Cowboy, Aldon , P Willy , Brooks, Whitner, Goldson...etc, a much more punishing defensive unit than Houston

I'll put my guys against that Patriots offense everyday of the week, twice on sunday
