Why would KC trade a 2nd round pick, let alone sign Smith, after the debacle of signing another QB who was a product of a system in Cassel?

Cassel is garbage, Alex is not

Cassel got exposed when he didn't have a great team and system around him. He was 11-5 with the Pats

Also had a very Alex like season that one year they made the playoffs. Run game and defense regress and he's back to being Cassel.

If Roman goes with Alex he will be fine

Mike Sando made an interesting comment, saying that Greg Roman will get a HC gig and he will bring in Alex Smith. That makes sense.

Or Gruden..

So how does Smith have any trade value if his success hinges on so many "ifs"

It doesn't. The point is the best shot to trade him right out of the gates is if Roman leaves and needs a QB. Its a quick call and a quick move.

what if?

If he can play well anywhere but here. If he needs to have the best situation surrounding him to play well. If he has any potential to get better or has hit the roof. If he is really all that better than the so so QBs teams are starting now. Those would be my first questions.

It's not hate man, Blizz made a perfectly good point that answers the question of this thread. "roman becoming a HC and then taking Alex with him"....Those are huge IFs!
