RC Owens passes away

Rest In Peace, Mr. Owens. The many, many times, I've met you, you were always gracious, humble and very engaging.

How many of you knew this:

The Niners traded Owens to the Colts in 61 and Owens drove across country to Colts training camp with his wife and son. He had an accident and both wife and son were killed. I didn't see any of this reported in any of the stories.

Can some of the old-timers confirm this story? It was sent to me via email by a family friend who used to write for the Contra Costa Times.

He finished the email off with this:

Now only Y.A. Tittle, Hugh McElhenney, Bob St. Clair, and John Brodie remain as the "big" stars of the late '50's Niners....

crazy...

(I hope the team does helmet decals like they did last year for Joe Perry and John Henry Johnson...)

Good idea.

We will win #6 in their honor.

I agree. 49ers Legends have earned and deserve such respect. I have confidence Jed will do the right thing. Jed has already placed him in our HOF so he is aware of how important our past legends are.
