My thought is spillman will be the started unless we sign a fa like woodson. Even if we draft a kid, spillman should start with the rookie rotation like what was done with aldon.

Rotation would be Spillman and Robinson more then likely, right now they would be listed as our #1 and #2 Free Safetys

He's cheaper than goldson. We don't have the cap room for a 8 million dollar free saftey, he's replaceable, Get over it move on he's gone, let the next man step up. I much rather have the money to resign AD, Mike, Colin and Aldon than to keep goldson. Guys like goldson give big shots, but don't have long careers because of it. I think we will have this problem addressed in the draft or bring in woodson and draft a guy to learn. We can even go with spillman, will be good for sure. Goldson always blew coverages, and was good for 15 yard late hit, or some other crap that hurt the team. We don't need a guy that's all about himself, we need a team guy that we can trust, not free lancing who takes horrible angles, goes for big shots, and doesn't wrap up...

Would like to see how he does in the off-season and the pre-season .

yes he was one of our MVPs last year.....in fact you can easily point to how our defense played when he wasn't one the field, compared to how they played when he was on the field.
Not saying Goldson is a better "player" than Justin Smith....or he is more important...but i will say that losing Goldson for a few games would impact our defense more, than losing Smith for a few games.
also just because a guy is shorter than someone, yet weighs similar..doesn't mean he would be automatically stronger. Dashon looks/plays much bigger than his 200lbs listing. Where as Spilllman looks skinnier on the field.
Justin Smith is the best defensive player in the league. Goldson isn't in the conversation. Spillman is a nice backup and probably would do a fine job if Goldson were to get hurt, especially with our front 7 - led by Justin Smith the unstoppable force.
Afrikan is on a roll the last few days.

I always wanted to see what Spillman could do at S. If he's anywhere near as good as Goldson is, then letting Goldson walk without even making an offer will make sense.

Are any of you paying attention? Spillman is a career special teamer. Trent Robinson is the future. While Spillman could probably be a mediocre starter in the league, Trent Robinson in his rookie year (preseason included) showed the intangibles of being a very effective 4 down player.

Goldson: Age 27 6'2" 200lbs, 40 yard dash at the Combine 4.67
Spillman: Age 26 6'0" 199lbs, 40 yard dash at the Combine 4.45
You know, I've always been intrigued by Spillman. When he HAS played, for instance, at the goal line, he diagnoses plays quickly and made critical TFL. He's tremendous on ST's which also speaks to his speed, elusiveness in traffic and nose for the ball.
One thing we have lacked at the FS position, more than anything is a FS with the speed/range to provide over-the-top help along the sidelines (help the CB's if they get beat), a FS who isn't susceptible to double moves and has recovery speed (even if starting 30 yards deep) and one who can match up in the RZ against the taller TE's and WR's. If Spillman can provide more blanket coverage, provide better speed/range, recovery ability, smarts in this defense, etc, we may have something on our hands. This coaching staff didn't even offer Goldson a deal. That says something...
I can not name one time Goldson provided a defended pass along the sideline on over-the-top coverage. Perhaps Spillman's added speed/range can help Culliver, Rogers and Brown out. Perhaps his experience within this defense can provide better RZ coverage.
Let's not forget, Spillman also has a lot of experience in OUR defense. Remember all the question marks we had about Brooks, Brown, Miller, Bowman, Boone, etc. I would not be surprised at all if Spillman or Robinson end up starting at FS and playing very well.

I wouldn't be surprised if Spillman ends up being better than Goldson. Yeah Goldson makes highlight hits but Spillman is faster plus a very good tackler. If he is good in coverage than we are set at safety for a little while

that's the question mark, his coverage ability. But we have been hosting a lot of FA safeties so they probably aren't too comfortable with the idea of spillman starting but they have been turning away a lot of the FAs

so you purposely put in that "last few days" part...while knowing that post was from May 17, 2012. you can act like you didn't, but the fact that this thread is 6 pages...and that quote was from the first couple of pages...yeah...lol.
expected b***h move, yes that's right b***h move, by folks who usually disagree with me... I've this from Alex fanboyz for years, who incite...then only quote the response....and then cry for help...lol. I expect for you to do the same....go ahead and click that button..lol.
