Jacobs will take Norris's spot, Jenkins will replace Williams, and LMJ will push Dixon of the roster.

Is there a team in the nfl who has two FB's?
still need a guy who can do it effectively if Miller goes down
Maybe on the practice squad.

I little bit of insight for you, Manningham will be a starter. He wasnt brought here to be the 3rd guy on a team with worse wideouts than the team he came from where he was #3.
Crabtree will be the other starter.
Moss will be the 3rd WR 2nd string X or Y/redzone fade guy. Same role Braylon Edwards had last year, but hopefully with much more production. I dont see him working out of the slot i see Crabs or Manningham being slid into that role when we have a 3WR set.
AJ Jenkins will not see much playing time unless someone gets hurt, ie Kyle Williams last year. If Josh Morgan and Ted Ginn dont go down, Williams doesnt see the field at all. Speaking off Williams, he either gets cut or is one of the last 3 or 4 to make the team, i dont think he is practice squad eligible so he probably gets cut. Jenkins imo, was brought in to be the slot guy in a year or two, basically taking the role we tried to make Ted Ginn fit into.
Ginn makes the team solely on returns but unless he improves to be the stretch the field slot guy he is gone after this year or maybe after this preseason, depending on how well LaMichael James or Jenkins or Hunter do in the return game in camp.
Swain is a memory, same with Dixon
LaMichael James is interesting because you can use him in a bunch of different ways. Despite the size similarities, him and Hunter arent redundant. Hunter is more of a downhill one cut runner, James is much more of a start stop shifty runner with much better hands.
Hunter will back up Gore, and James will be the guy who will do all of the screen plays and dumpoffs out the backfield that Hunter and Gore arent too effective at because of their bricks for mitts.
Jacobs obviously is the goaline/ second half/ short yardage back. Obviously Frank is going to be the main back in the second half but Jacobs will be key for that as well, hammering away on tired defenses as he did with NY. Maybe Harbs decides to get real crazy and use Jacobs as a lead back for Gore. Just one mans opinion.

We are not going to carry two fullbacks on our gameday roster. If need be, Jacobs can fill the role if Miller gets injured.

Thats what killed me about that pick..we drafted a guy in the first who might end up being inactive or not playin much at all =/. We stilll never got our RZ target, The Jenkins pick wouldve made more sense if we didnt already have Manningham. Jenkins is just faster and a rookie. He's not bringing anything new to the table. I keep reading about the rams were looking at him but who cares? Our secondary is still the weak link of our defense and we didnt improve it thru the draft and AZ and STL added some solid weapons to their recieving corps with Quick, Givens, nd Floyd. Then Seattle's Rice, Smith and Baldwin. PRAY FOR BUST lol.
We missed out on alot of star power players i guess. Maybe its just all the webzone hype thats killing me but think about the players we passed on that could have been instant impact.
Fleener - Redzone target, could play WR as well
Konz- Could play RG and would be future C
Janoris Jenkins - shut down corner to solidy our D even more
Brian Quick- Big RZ target, (gonna be better than some 1st Rd WRs IMO)
this list could go on for hours and im sure you have your list as well..I just feel like 1st rd pick is supposed to be tht guy tht comes in and starts, unless its like a understudy kinda guy ex. Aaron Rogers to Brett Farve.
I cant name too many 1st round picks from this year that wont start or see significant playing time. It was disappointing to read that Jenkins will be alternating as an active/inactive player with Williams.

Think Byham gets the nod and will dress on gamedays

Good bye and good riddance to Dixon. I'm sure he'll own Dancing with the Stars.

Slowey, Beeler, Person could all be fighting for the last OL spot.

because fast WRs who run excellent routes and have great hands only come in 6'9" size. this dude is legit. what the niners did was make sure they can score from outside the redzone by adding speedy home run hitters. great receivers come in many sizes and i think we got a great fit for our system. he'll be starting soon enough. most people assume moss will be the #1 but i dont see it. manningham and crabs will probably start and moss will be used in certain situations, id expect jenkins and williams to be pretty involved this year in the slot. harbaugh will find ways to use everyone, he didnt just draft this guy for no reason

Jerry Rice was 6'2" and John Taylor was 6'1." If only those guys were a little bit taller then we might have been able to win a few more championships
Will people please stop with the thought that we need a skyscraper to be effective in the red zone. Every red zone touchdown isn't a jump ball thrown to the corner of the end zone. Effective routes will get more results than an extra couple inches in height.

Now that our offseason's mostly over, it's interesting to see what Harbaalke's strategy was, which was to flood the need. We were deficient in playmakers, and we went out and made 3 significant WR additions (Manningham, Jenkins, Moss) and added 2 significant RB additions as well. (James, Jacobs) Our other deficiency is at the RG spot, where we'll have Person/Kilgore/Looney battling it out for time.
I don't think it's a coincidence that we have several guys battling it out in our areas of weakness.

Well said. If you factor in proper training for vertical leap and learning when to jump, I don't think those extra few inches matter much at all. Besides, it's not as if the average CB is a freakish beanpole.

The problem with this is that Norris wasn't active most of last season. Would they keep Jacobs only to have him inactive on game days?

my new projected 53 man now with draft done
QB- Alex Smith, Josh Johnson and Colin Kaepernick
RB- Frank Gore, Kendall Hunter, LaMichael James and Brandon Jacobs
FB- Bruce Miller
WR- Michael Crabtree, Randy Moss, Mario Manningham and A.J. Jenkins
TE- Vernon Davis, Delanie Walker and Nate Byham(Backup FB)
C- Jonathan Goodwin and Jason Slowey
OG- MIke Iupati, Daniel Kilgore, Joe Looney and Mike Person
OT- Joe Staley, Anthony Davis and Alex Boone
DE- Justin Smith, Ray McDonald, Will Tukuafu and Demarcus Dobbs
NT- Isaac Sopoaga and Ricky Jean Francois
OLB- Ahmad Brooks, Aldon Smith, Parys Haralson and Darius Fleming
ILB- Patrick Willis, NaVorro Bowman, Larry Grant and Tavares Gooden
CB- Carlos Rogers, Tarell Brown, Chris Culliver, Perrish Cox and Tramaine Brock
S- Dashon Goldson, Donte Whitner, C.J. Spillman, Trenton Richardson and Colin Jones
ST- David Akers, Andy Lee, Brian Jennings, Ted Ginn Jr. and Rock Cartwright
Close calls, but left off, Ian Williams and Cam Johnson, as a UDFA and 7th Round Pick they need to prove in camp.
Before anyone says anything about Jones and Cartwright, they should make it based on STs, they are aces on STs.
Based on this 53 man, the following would the 7 inactives, QB Kaeperick, WR Jenkins, C Slowey, OG Person, DE Dobbs, CB Brock and S Richardson.
I couldn't find a spot for Jenkins on 46 man, he won't be used a lot, unless Moss busts or is hurt.
