WRT 3rd down woes, it does fall on Alex, to a degree. Play-calling is part of it, receivers failing to separate, OL not opening holes so RB's can pick up the 1st down, or RB's not finding a way to get it done. It's a lot of things...guys like Moss and Manningham will help that, as will Jacobs in the running game. Kilgore can help strengthen the OL...if not him, then someone not named Rachal or Snyder. It's a collective effort, no doubt. Adding Fleener to the offense would also help a lot.
I just spoke last night with Lowell Cohn after his appearance at the Monday Night Football class at Stanford. I'll post a thread about that elsewhere, but I specifically asked him about Grant. I told him that Grant replies to a lot to blog comments and that he could end up with his foot in his mouth if he's not careful, Lowell replied that Grant is a clever guy and he will sit there and seems to enjoy replying to everyone. So if he is cut from the same stock as his father, he has some pretty thick skin and enjoys provoking people into responding.

He makes the reads, he is the one responsible for finding the open man, for getting the ball out of his hands and into the playmakers hands to move the chain. That is why he gets the money and the glory more than the other positions. He is the leader, the general.
Peoples argument that he is blamed for everything when he shouldn't can be said of every QB. Line needs better play, team needs better wr. It is the general view of people. Only on the zone is there people who give him more leeway than they normally would others. You may think he is not at fault, but if it were totally untrue the front office would have given him better. That speak volumes. Right now he is a servicable QB that still has to show and dispell that myth/fact.

Grant Cohn is a great writer. One of my favorites. I enjoy reading both of the Cohn writers.

Why do I have a feeling that if it was an article about Gore getting old, we would be talking about what we can get in trade for Gore.
But it is an article bringing up some things Alex Smith needs to improve which equals hater.

LULZ!!!!!!!!!!!
He was merely correcting your grammatical errors. I don't think he was insinuating that you are an idiot. Instead of "your", it is actually spelled "you're". Also, it is doubt, not "dout"

I remember the days when the Press Democrat was one of my favorite sources of 49ers information. Once Maiocco left, it has gone down hill from there; however, I did enjoy Branch and Barber's relatively short contributions. The Press Democrat hit rock bottom when it brought in Grant Cohn, especially when a lot of his articles are links to his dad's article.

Obviously you missed the firestorm last year when Gore held out. While the intensity wasn't as high as the QB debate, but the big H word was used quite often.

"your,"
"you're."
"dout."
doubt not "dout."
or
doubt, and not the incorrectly spelled "dout."
or
doubt; this is the correct spelling of "dout."
or
doubt. This is the way to spell "dout."
This is the website that discusses the exciting topic of English grammar right?
Unfortunately it seems that the Press Democrat has gone way down hill since Matt Maiocco left. At least with this last article Grant Cohn tried to use some statistics and tried to put forth what he believed was an interesting and signifficant argument. Normally he tries to rely on nothing but spectacle and loaded comments to try and generate discussion. He probably learned everything he knows about journalism from his dad. His dad is also probably the reason he was hired on at the Press Democrat. Ultimately though, most of what he writes is arbitrary.
