Our WR contracts...little alarming?

Ginn and Moss both want to come up for FA. I don't care if Kyle Williams does. We still need to improve that position for the future.

we aren't going to carry more then 6 WR's genius and drafting 3 WR's in 2 years is wasteful

Ginn= Punt return specialist, generally has really horrible hands.
KW= Nothing special, purely a depth WR for when guys get hurt
Moss= Old with a whole lot of baggage in his past, who knows if he even makes it through camp. If he does have a good year he may continue to get short contracts worth more money.

Manningham/Crab will get extensions based on how well they play in the next few years. The rest aren't big losses. The draft is where we really upgrade this group.

Nope. Why commit to Randy for longer than you have to. Ginn is trying to prove something. We offered him two years. He must think he'll have a breakout season. Do you honestly want us to extend Williams right now? We have Crabtree locked up for three seasons and Manningham for two. We are likely to draft a rookie who will have several years. Moss also came for an Audition. This is what it is. If these guys pan out then great. But really this is a safe bet. The more worriesome move would be to have commited tons of money and years to moss and Ginn.

there is nothing more anyone could add to this, this sums things up perfectly. never give a diva wide out like moss more than one year at this stage of thier career. ok i did add something to it
Most players around the league are signing short contracts because there is hope the cap will increase by a lot next year freeing up money for clubs. Heard this on TV last week.
Moss only is worth a 1 yr contract

Ted Ginn had the opportunity to get more value and he didn't. But thank god he's back. He's a great returner.

Manningham 2 year deal is good for both teams.

Michael Crabtree needs to step up.

I think the Niners will take two WR's and maybe Williams gets cut.

I agree but why load roster spots with temporary guys? Why not just draft players now who can grow with us?

Yeah because every player that they draft or sign makes the team.................genius!

Maybe that's why most of NFL contract aren't guaranteed.

jeff is right though. you do not want to be drafting wide outs every year. look how that worked out for detroit a few years ago.The one year for moss is understandable as diva guys like him do well with a one year deal, ginns one year is his own fault, he can only do one thing well. everyone knows that and i bet you the money was equal with the teams he was looking at so he figured his best chance at winning was here.i am no expert but thats how i look at it

The only guy who would be initially cut is Williams. That still leaves us hampered by only drafting 1 realistic player. Obviously Ginn is not in long tern plans so that means we go back to the drawing board again next year. It would be wiser to just draft 2 guys this year so we have depth for more then 2 years at the position.

What are the odds a rookie beats out anybody who is a vet on the team? Chances are low unless that prospect is a high pick....take RoJo for instance. Moss, Crabs, Manningham wont be replaced in camp. Ginn for his proven ST abilities wont be cut...if we didnt want him we wouldn't of offered a contract. Only guy is Williams and he still has vet experience and it would be hard for a rookie to replace him.
Does anyone else not plainly see that Ginn Won't count against carrying 6 receivers because he will be apart of the special teams roster group. This is why we let Blake C leave and got special teamers that can also compete for depth. However if their initial approach was get 2wrs in the draft one early and one late that could be hidden on the PS, they will probably package that pick to move up in the 2nd or 3rd if value drops.
I like it personally. Crabs needs to prove what type of contract he is worth and having him through 2014 is no reason for alarm right now. Moss is on a prove it 1 year deal no reason for anything longer. I would have liked 3-4 years for Manningham but he has to perform to get his deal and I like that. our franchise has proven we take care of those who perform and if he does he'll get a long term deal w/SF. Ginn is replaceable and obviously not much of a market for him, we can keep bringing him back on 1 year deals until we find a younger player who's better at WR or RB that can also return kicks. And Kyle Williams needs to go now and I think he might not that Ginn is back.
I'd have to agree with the FO, there just wasn't good value in this WR FA class at many levels. When deshaun, bowe, etc, got tagged, it distorted the price for Vincent Jackson too high (with the risks of his history of off field problems and clashes with management). The second tier guys were then also inflated.

I'd bet the FO would pay a high, but fair price for a proven #1, and mid-range price for the same as a #2, but with what is available, they've done well to get test drives from best available talent. So the draft is where they will have to focus to find a #1 to develop at fair market value.

If we get that #1 this year, and within a year or two Crabs becomes the #2, then we will probably lose him in 2014 because I have no doubt he will want a big contract and #1 role.
