theres this thing called, restructuring somebodys contract... which i think would happen if alex was to outperform the competition this following year.. i wouldnt give alex a 5 year contract based on 1 year alone either when hes had 5 years of question marks and injurys...

This year, he actually has receivers to throw to... Moss, Crabtree, Manningham is WAY.. WAAAAY better than all of the following combos:
Crabtree, Morgan, Ginn
Crabtree, Ginn, Swain
Crabtree, Swain, Williams - NFCCG
Stop making sense. Hopefully your opinion and "star" status on these forums will help the logic sink in a little better.
I know...I ask too much.
this is exactly what ive been saying..... no ones saying HERE ALEX TAKE THIS TEAM FOR 10 YEARS... no we want to see 1 more year since he just got us to the NFC championship game.... obviousley not him by himself, but he started all 16 games, and had a 100.00 qb rating in the playoffs 500yds 5 td's..... if he declines this next year or doesnt outperform last year then by all means... get rid of him... but there is definite reasoning why we should have him back for 1 more year.

Even if VD is double covered and Crabs isn't open and they stuff the box against Gore... then run the ball, roll out and make a play, by more time for the wr's, etc... It just can't always be someone else's fault

Kaep. I hope we don't take a step back this year. I am just tired of the same offseason dance with Smith. He played well last year but with all of those redzone opportunities I would have liked to have seen more TD's.
Smith got drafted and they said he had a sucky team. Gore turned out to be pretty good and then they said Alex has no weapons. So we draft Vernon. Then they say we have no line so we draft Staley, Iupati, Davis, etc... not perfect but still. Then we draft Crabtree and Morgan. Then they say we have a horrible coach so we get Harbaugh. We have literally drafted an entire offense around this guy and I think we will add more pieces this next year. He is a good guy but I'm tired of the Axe always falling on someone else head. If Alex had tons of potential than other teams would be knocking on the door for his services. It seems like the entire NFL is in agreement about Smith's potential. If he really was Elite than we would have never let him hit the open market. I will support him as a fan next year but I am ready to move on. I would like to see how someone else does with this offense that we have set up.
Remember there were a lot of drops by our WRs that would have been TDs. I remember VD, Walker and Crabs all having TDs that didn't happen.
Also, Smith was a great redzone QB before last year. The numbers showed him to be one of the tops in the league.

He's bound to be better in '12 and he was pretty damn good in '11 no matter what these haters think. 7 comeback wins including one in Philly and that stunning playoff against the Saints? Come on. But, if the Dolphins are offering 4 or 5 years with a lot more guaranteed money, he could take it and that wouldn't be a disaster for the Niners. Josh Johnson had over 40 td's against 1 or 2 ints playing for Harbaugh and Kap has had a year to sit there and watch NFL defenses. Plus, Harbaugh is real good at bringing young guys along. I like Alex Smith a lot. I've always rooted for him. But honestly, I think Josh Johnson or Colin Kaepernick can do the job with Harbaugh as their coach.

Alex Smith will be are starting QB. It's almost 100% sure.
Now if he doesn't resign, Kaep has the skills and has also been in this offense for a full year and now a full offseason. I do see more INT's with Kaep, but that's because he will take more chances down field. I think with JH, Kaep can have similar stats as Alex. Just more INT's. Also its already bean noted that Kaep is already at the facility doing work.

No comparisons on talent but Steve Young did the same thing. I think you want a player who is always looking to get on the field and pushing the guy ahead of him.

The 49ers' first tried to move up into the last part of the first round. The deals were to rich. The spot they did move up to was the one where they took Kaepernick at.
They expected Cincinnati to go Dalton. They biggest concern about competition for Kaep was Oakland who was also trying to trade up.

I have been on this forum for years and never registered until now. Alex is fools gold. He has been stealing money for years and has not produced ANYTHING. He has wasted Gores career. He has killed (2) coaches careers. I don't think he has ever thrown for over 300 yards, which by todays QB standards is nothing. He holds on to the ball and takes unnecessary sacks. The defense has been good for years, but due to his lack of production they haven't received their fare due. He throws balls in the dirt, behind receivers or too far beyond normal human jumping ability. I live on the East Coast and have watched every Niners game since 97'. I have yet to find ANY Niners fan up and done the East Coast that feels any different than my comments relating to Smith. Can you imagine what a competent QB would have done in there offense last year? Its too hard to think about, because too many people want to see this bum on the field. I could write all day about how much I hate seeing him in a Niners jersey, but at the end of the day it means nothing. The Alex fans will never understand until they see a real QB and reflect on what they could have been without Alex Smith as QB. Why haven't the Niners actually brought anyone in to give him competition for the job? Harbaugh obviously has no faith in Colin or he wouldn't have shot down him dreams without giving him or anyone else a chance to compete for the job. Alex has been given a free ride to get by and get paid for millions for it. You and I would be locked up for stealing like that. Another question for all you Alex fans, If they didn't have the GREAT Special Teams and Defense would Alex have a job this year? If Colin ever gets on the field, Alex might as well turn in his uniform along with that blue collar shirt.

He did? How many times did the defense give them excellent field position and David Akers ended up kicking a field goal?

Yeah, and they knock Smith of his slow wind-up delivery. Kaepernick's throwing style looks ready made for a linebacker's helmet to be planted into his back, ball being ejected into the waiting arms of a defender. Hopefully he has better pocket presence than Smith to compensate.
