Why did we overpay so much for Brooks? And where does that leave us now?

When this thread began, all I could think was that none of us really knew how the deal was structured so why was this guy screaming about it. Turns out there was nothing to worry about. Kinda funny. I don't want to look back through all the posts. Has the thread author come on line and taken his medicine on this or is he just laying low and hoping everyone will forget that he was a drama queen?
I remember that. I think it was the Senior Bowl though.

Brooks counts $2.85M against this year's cap...so much for being overpaid. The guaranteed money is $17.5M. You really have to look deeper into these salaries before claiming someone was overpaid. Baalke and the rest of the front office has been in salary cap hell...and won't go there again. Gotta have more faith in our "suits". They know what they're doing.

I know it's an SD thread when I see the excessive use of disappointed emoticons.
Those are the go-tos.

Holy crap how far has our front office come since Jed took over. Everyone had conspiracy theories about Paraag when he first came on saying Jed and him were gonna make power grabs... instead turns out Jed left contract numbers and cap numbers to a statistical mesiah.
Then there was Baalke in which the zone conspired that Jed was cheap and wanted more control so he put "his" man into the GM position. Turns out Baalke knows a thing or two about talent evaluation, giving us the sackmaster the zone has been dying for.
And now he's hired another guru as president to ensure we are on the cutting edge of technology as well as getting some pretty powerful relationships with very deep pockets at a time we are locking up funding for a new stadium.
Really his only mistep was Singletary... who if Sing had followed Jed's lead and let people who knew what they were doing alone, like the OC and DC, may still be giving speaches and running after refs at Candlestick. But that mistake really turned out to be a blessing in disguise cause now we have a legit coach.
Kudos! Damn, if everything turns into gold like this past year and a half... we will be leading the league in all time superbowl trophies in a few years.

Without the incentives he it is 6 years 37 million-this includes roster and signing bonus. There is even one where if he is active he gets 50K bonus (this is not part of the incentives. So if he is hurt and not on the active roster for the game he loses money. They posted the numbers and its not bad. This year he will only count 2.85 million. Parathe is also taking into account the players in the future when his contract peaks who might not be here like Justin Smith etc.
And leads the team in TFL (which is like a sack as well) and total tackles = 6th on the team. I don't see how he could ever surpass Bowman, Willis, Goldson, Whitner & J.Smith though.

You guys keep harping on $2.85. But he's not worth $6.65 in 2013, not worth $7.5 in 2014, not worht $8.35 in 2015, not worth $6.35 in 2016 and not worth $5.3 in 2017. It's not a one year deal for $2.85....

Which makes it even more laughable IMO. Harbaugh was hired less than a week before the Senior Bowl and was still assembling his staff.
