They are pretty much a 4-3 teams now. Aldon moves and can rush from either side, but he rushes on most downs. Either way, they are still going to rush 4. The 3-4 allows you to move Aldon around and put 2 LB in the middle.

The "pure 3-4" and "pure 4-3" don't really exist.

The Niners really kinda run a 3-3 + Aldon.

Spoken like a veteran, sometimes you have 4 DL lined up pinning their ears back to rush, with Aldon or Brooks rushing from the OLB spot. Nolan would call it a hybrid defense, with Charles Haley they ran the hybrid defense with haley being the elephant position. You put the best athlets on the field to get the job done.

and that's why i fill mines with porn.
The 3-4 defense is superior schematically to the 4-3

LOL! Yes it tends to be.
It's not such a bad idea, I don't think the OP is suggesting we use it full time and just throw away the 3-4, it would actually be useful to use it occasionally to give opposing teams more things they need to prepare for.

It's more likely the niners use their nickel defense which they came out in a lot last year every time Aldon Smith was on the field as a DE. Justin Smith and McDonald went inside as a DT and Brooks was the other DE. Justin was all pro at the DE and DT position they used it so much and they were really good at it.

^^^I may be mistaken but I thought I seen us use 4-3 sets a few times last season using Aldon as a DE. But you could be right that it was just a nickel package. I noticed it a couple times and it was different from what we usually run. I have no clue what it was.
maybe as a different look to throw off the offense

I would throw a Big 4-3 on the field to stop a strong rushing attack

LDE - Ray Mac
LDT - Soap
RDT- RJF
RDE - Cowboy
SLB- Brooks
MLB- Bowman
WLB - Willis

maybe for a snap or two ...but honestly, I dont see us moving to a 4-3 even for a few snaps, , the only way we will have 4 down lineman is for nickel and dime packages

When you have the NFLs best defense... one of the all time great rushing defenses... you don't mess with it.
No. Larry Grant is not a better player than Sopoaga or Brooks. They're both key to our dominant run D. Grant filled in for Willis and what do you know, we gave up 100 rushing yards and a rushing TD to Marshawn Lynch.

You would keep Aldon off the field?

i dont get what you are sayin, parys and brooks are 85 and 84 on madden...i am so lost
^ that was a joke btw, if grant was better than haralson, he would be starting somewhere else

larrys quick as hell. if it wasnt willis or bowman filling in at OLB itd be larry. hes right there hes an overall great LB an one of the top in the league, were extremely fortunate to still have him. he wud actually be a great olb. an now that we lost haralson hopefully they give him some practice reps at that position cuz id rather have him as 2nd string olb rather than some 35 year old that even the cardinals let go
