IMHO, Goldson is okay. I'm fine with him here, but franchise tag? Actually, that might be good - make him play one more year to earn a big contract. I personally think that we need an upgrade at FS.
I miss the Hanks days. Yes yes yes, Lott too. But Hanks is more recent, and he was the surest thing out there to scare opposing QBs that he would straight up go after the ball.
Ball hawkin' here. Daz what we need son.

Yeah he only has 6 interceptions and causes fumbles. Almost around the league leaders in interceptions. No ball hawk there. I see what you mean....

one pass defended, 6 picks and 8 souls crushed. I'll take it.
Plus his force fumbles as someone pointed out. Dude is responsible for 8 turnovers. I'll take that any day. I hope he stays a 49er.

Really hope the can re-sign Rogers before the FA period so they can tag Goldson. Make him prove it for 2 years straight before he gets Weddle type of contract. But dude has been amazing.

I'll pass on Goldson if he gets a big contract somewhere. Franchise him? - No way! Goldson may have forced some turnovers, but he f**ks up too many times to be considered for a franchise tag. GMs who look at stats and pay the guy based purely on them usually end up over-paying.

He's decent, not franchise tag good. A free safety is a must in the draft.

You definitely get the good with the bad with Goldson. There are good chunk of teams who would love to have him as their starting FS but with this defense and it's expectations we might want an upgrade. Problem is there most likely isn't one in free agency or the draft (harder when we will be picking bottom of the round). P.S. Reggie Smith is a FA after this year and he definitely isn't the answer and of course madieu Williams isn't either.

He's decent, but most of his picks haven't been as a result of him defending a pass really well as opposed to the opposing QB just making an errant throw IMO. I think our front 7, along with Carlos Rogers, hide his weaknesses.

Im getting tired of Goldson and Whit not wrapping up, they go for the big hit, somtimes you gotta wrap up
Goldson is ok, unfortunately FS talent looks pretty thin this next offseason via free agency and the draft
Even if we sign Goldson, we need to upgrade the #3 safety spot

He'll be looking to get obscenely overpaid....I'd rather franchise a guy who's actually worth a damn (like Carlos Rogers).

110% agree... Goldson is worse for not wrapping up but Whitner has had a few. Yeah, I don't think Reggie or Madieu should be back so a #3 safety is probably a need. Maybe Spillman fits that role? That's the thing I think it's thin and we draft late in round 1 so it will be hard to find if not impossible to find an instant upgrade at FS for next year. I see him wanting too much but there is just so much bad with the good even though it's less than last year.
P.S. Throughout the league a lot of guys are throwing shoulders into runners and not wrapping up. Just lack of football 101 and lazy/bad technique. It's a growing trend in the NFL.

Look at the #'s folks. I'd rather take the risk of an uncovered Rogers. He has 1 - 2 years of really good play left (Rogers). Goldson may have 5 - 6. He's an absolute ball hawk out there. He catches every tipped pass. He hits like a truck. His instincts and angles he takes are outstanding. The guy we can't afford to lose is GOLDSON!
Rogers says he wants to finish as a 49er. So I take that chance with a big contract over 3 years he may sign with us again anyway. We can't leave Goldson uncovered. We can't! Big dropoff in the back end without him.
Ted Ginn I think we can get to come back for a big "return man contract." We need him for field position.
Alex Smith has finally found the teacher he needs to continue to develop. Almost no way he wants to go to another team. I think he would be out of his mind to leave Harbaugh. So for a pretty good contract value I think he will come back.
These are the 4 guys I think we need to resign. But Goldson is by far the most dangerous to leave uncovered in FA. Discuss.
It's not often I agree with you, but in this case, absolutely!
Goldson is my hands-down choice for Franchise Player!

yes goldson is good in the trip ball drill but he still takes bad angles and is average in the open. he's a good, damn good hitter but ya cant count on him to be the last pillar
i really like the walt.3 but a BIG 10+ million contract is not what he should get...production based contract with a decent bonus if he wants to stay.
williams has just made ginn odd man out
no way alex could go to another team and be successful anyway..........unless with 2 years in the same O, good Oline, skilled pos players who can catch the ball, can he hit those throws enough to where we cant blame him anymore
