they dont need a nickname. if something sticks, it sticks. theres nothing worse than a forced nickname, especially when it sucks. (M-Rob for example).
btw, "the scarlet shield"?? not only is that not one of our colors, but it sounds like a romance novel...
um... what? what in there references Lord of the Rings?

all the "Golden Guard and Shield" stuff. it just sounds like that theme.
imo the Gold Rush wouldve made sense and tied into football (as in pass rush), which we actually had back in the 60's. but then they named the cheerleader squad the Gold Rush, so now it sounds weak.
