Why doesnt Patrick Willis make any big plays?

Why? Because Bowman is out there making the plays Willis used to make. He's making big plays every play, by the opposing offenses keying in on him, making Bowmans, and the rest of the D's life easier.

He's been solid. If you've been watching him like I have, you would have noticed his improved pass coverage skill.

If Darrelle Revis doesn't make big plays in a game, his presence is still felt even if it's as a decoy. You can't make big plays if the opposing teams avoid you, which is what they do with Revis. So his presence is felt by not letting THEIR #1 receiver make big plays. Same thing with Willis. His presence is felt because opposing teams don't even bother running vs. us anymore and go into the game with a one-dimensional mindset.

#2 The man is just a money tackler. If its 3rd down and its a passing down, Patrick usually isn't sent on a blitz in case the the QB dumps it off to a back or throws it to a slot receiver over the middle. QB's rely on slot receivers and RBs to make a couple people miss and run for the 1st. Patrick lets them catch it but they go down instantly. The Turnovers he forces are usually punts.
#3 He does have 1 FF so far this year...on pace for 4 FF
Excellent point.

go to 6:12 of this video.....after the game, Bengal coaches were raving about Patrick Willis. They have said that play works for them almost every time. The score was still 3-3 in the 4th QTR...they could have scored a TD on that play or that drive.
its little things like that, some don't notice. Heck even the Eagles website talked about that play leading up to our game and showed how great of a job Patrick Willis is doing for us.

so true. I remember him and troy smith last year, when we saw a different crabs... his effort and everything seemed higher. Granted maybe he will try harder now that he is starting to see the rock more often.

It's the position. His job is to rove the middle or cover a back or TE depending on blitzing scheme, etc. His position and what he is asked to do does not give him the opportunity to make big plays. You don't want to blitz him too much because if he's blitzing up the middle and it's a pitch outside, he's essentially taken out of the play. You'd rather have him stay home and make sure that if someone's coming out of the backfield with the ball, they don't get any yards. He's there to make the stop. Look at NT's in 3'4's. A non-glamorous position. They don't put big numbers because their job in many scenarios is to try and occupy 2 lineman and allow the guys behind him to make a play. Otherwise you have a guard getting lose to the second level and taking your run stoppers out of the game. Although Willis does have to cover at times, he doesn't spend as much time covering as a DB. So he's not going to have big INT numbers. He doesn't get to rush the passer as much as a OLB or DE, so he's not going to have big sack numbers. He does a lot of things that don't show up on the stat sheet.
