Cassell and Ryan have 66 tds in their careers which have only been three years as a starter. Alex has 51 in 5.
I only see 5 teams here that we are better off then.
Rams - Bradford NFL rookie of the year
Seahawks - Tavaris Jackson = Alex Smith plus they have Whitehurst
Cardinals - Kolb
Vikings - Mcnabb
Lions - Bradford
Panthers - we are better off
Redskins - Its a wash because Grossman = Smith
Raiders - Another wash here Cambell = Alex Smith
Broncos - Are you kidding? They have Orton, Quinn and Tebow....
Browns - we are better off
Bengals - we are better off
Jaguars - Gerrard >> Smith plus they drafted Gabbert
Titans - Hassebeck (We tried to get him to start)
Dolphins - we are better off
Bills - we are better off
You can say all you want about Smith can't suck those guys' nuts, but if that's the case, why did he have a better QB rating than them in '09? Also, Smith only has started 5 more games than Cassel and 4 more games than Ryan. You do realize he's only started more than 10 games in a season once right? Cassel has started 15 games each of the last 2 years and Ryan has started 16, 14, and 16 games. Those guys have also played with better weapons around them and far more coaching continuity. Saying he's been a full time starter for 5 years is a joke. The only year there wasn't complete instability at QB was 2006. That's it. ONE year.
Bradford may wind up being better, but as of now he's not. Smith put up better #'s than him last year. Same with a guy like Stafford, he hasn't proven s**t. You point out Whitehurst as if he is good??? And Alex Smith is WAAAAAY better than Tarvaris Jackson. Smith also put up way better #'s (rating, TD/INT ratio, yds/attempt, etc.) than Kolb last year with way worse offensive coaching and a way inferior supporting cast. Kolb went 2-3 in his 5 games and that's with 4 of the 5 games being against teams picking in the top-10. He only had 1 good game (against Atlanta). The other 4 he either sucked BADLY or played mediocre at best. So explain to me the logic of how Kolb is better. Please. Also, this is not 2004. McNabb is not better than Smith. He is one of the 3-5 worst starting quarterbacks in football right now most likely. Smith is also better than Grossman (is that a joke?), Campbell, and Garrard. As for Matt "34 TD's vs. 44 INT's over the last 3 years with QB ratings of 57.8, 75.1, and 73.2" Hasselbeck, again, look at his #'s since 2008. Absolutely DISGUSTING. The last 2 years Alex Smith has played some very solid football (32 TD's vs. 22 INT's, many of which bounced off receivers' hands) despite the worst offensive coaching in football and an absolute revolving door of OC's. Imagine if he were in, say, Kolb's situation of having Reid/Mornhinweg coaching him without learning a new system every year and throwing to guys like Jackson/Maclin/Celek. The guy absolutely deserves the benefit of the doubt.
The one team I said that's debatable is the Broncos because Orton's pretty solid. But LMAO at listing Tebow/Quinn as if they are even anything better than Kaepernick/McCown. I'll take Kaepernick over either of them in a HEARTBEAT and it's not even close.
By the way, I also should have added the Jets as they win despite Sanchez, not because of him (and were UNBELIEVABLY lucky to sneak into the '09 playoffs in the first place)...the dude has finished 27th and 28th in the league in QB rating the last 2 years
