Its just that there really isn't a clear cut starting FB on the team at this moment. Lets look through our options:
Dixon- More suited to play as the bruising RB, but he has bulked up to 250, so we will see.
Miller- He was probably the guy they wanted as the starter, but he is on the PUP list. Idk what will happen when he comes back from his injury. He likely won't play in the preseason.
Norris- The guy is the complete opposite of what a West Coast FB has to be. The only way he stays is because of injury to the others. I bet he gets cut.
Corcoran- I just have a feeling that this is the guy the coaching staff wants, but as someone else pointed out, he might be too light.
If I had to guess, I would say that all these guys would battle it out during preseason. Norris will get cut, Miller will likely come back in the first couple weeks of the season, and Corcoran will be sent to the PS. I bet Dixon replaces Miller in the regular season if he is still injured, but the coaching staff's intention to start Miller will eventually come to reality once he is healthy and ready to start.

Konrad Reuland last year at standford had 11g... 21rec.... 209yds.... 1 td....
that was in only 11 games.
I think the fb will play a significant role in the offense, especially noticeable in the passing game.
owen marecic 13g... 9rec.... 75yds.... 0 tds
still not bad for a fb...
that was in only 11 games.

I'm not sure of that. Harbaugh's Stanford team didn't use the FB much except for blocking. It's where his offense veers from the WCO. It's a limiting factor, I think.

Where's the Rathman on our current roster? Besides, as solid as he was, even in the 80's when he did play, it's not like if we played a 3rd receiver or 2nd tight end instead of him that they wouldn't have ever made plays...

Yes, Stanford played Marecic a bunch, but he was one of their better players... I just think the talent difference between a Delanie Walker or a Joshua Morgan and a Moran Norris or a Bruce Miller is pretty gaping...

If the new mini-RB is the future of the Niners, they really need a stud FB. I know its kind of a dying breed, but it just makes so much sense. If they have a big, bruising 240+ DB in the backfield with James or Hunter it would open up so many options. Teams would have to consider a RB plunge up the middle, behind the FB, fake up the middle, sweeping to the out side, or just a FB dive up the middle. It would also alleviate the need to dedicate more roster spots to RBs. I.E. James, Hunter, big RB, and a FB.
Is Bruce Miller that guy?
