His name will be used as a noun from here on with injuries.
Crab·tree/ crab'tree/Noun
1. To skip training camp and most of preseason.
2. To make an "ow-wee" into a serious injury...until regular season starts.
3. To hold-out for money when no money has yet been earned.

He wouldn't be in a boot right now if he didn't have something seriously wrong with his foot.
The kid is a diva, that is a fact, but being a diva wouldn't get him a boot if there wasn't something wrong.
As frustrating as it is given his history of the last two years, we are going to have to wait. From everything I have heard and read about Harbaugh, he is not going to put up with a diva for one second. When Crabtree is physically cleared to play, Harbaugh will have him working his butt off to get ready. JH is a high motor guy who will not tolerate a slacker.

I'm hoping he stays on the sidelines for the first few games, or at least until he can be fully assimilated into the offense. Last year they threw him in too early, without many reps, and he was terrible the first five games. This would also allow the team to develop the other guys and see if they are capable.
Of course, if he is head and shoulders better...he'll have to play.

Ugh. His last year at Texas Tech he played half the season on a hurt foot. It got so bad that during the bowl game he could hardly run and had the worst output of his career (40 yds/1 TD).
When asked about it, he always denied the injury because he wanted to play through it...I think his self sacrifice then has caused real damage that still hasn't healed.
Ironically his selflessness during his Red Raider days has made him look like a diva today.
I hope he gets better, he was a beast before the injury.

I'm sure his injury is legit. The only problem is his history with this team and not getting the benefit of a full off season, training camp, and preseason. You have been the advocate of chemistry being a huge reason for Alex Smith and his WR's. Crabtree has done nothing but f**k that up, purposely the past two years.
Now, he's out for reals and it is more like the boy who cried wolf.

he'll be back. team officials wouldnt put a boot on his foot if it wasnt serious. this just forces us to bring in another starting WR until Crabs is ready. IMO it just upgrades the talent at WR. if our FO can actually get someone half decent to sign with us

Crabtree expected back at practice in 2 weeks :
And Edwards on Crabtree :
The 49ers' receiver positions are in a state of flux as the club prepares to open the exhibition season Friday at the New Orleans Saints. The team expects Crabtree to be cleared to practice within the next two weeks after he was placed on the physically-unable-to-perform list at the beginning of training camp with a left foot injury.
Crabtree is not expected to play in any exhibition games, but the club anticipates he will be available for the regular-season opener, Sept. 11, against the Seattle Seahawks.
And Edwards on Crabtree :
"Crab is real smooth," Edwards said. "He has great hands. He always catches the ball away from his body. He's smooth in and out of routes. He's very smart. He's very similar to me, but I'm a little taller."
While they have not been practicing together, Edwards and Crabtree have spent a lot of time around each other during the past week after Edwards signed a one-year, $1 million contract.
"Crab has been around," Edwards said. "He's very smart. He's been in our meetings. He's very attentive. He knows all the plays, and knows what he, as well as all the other receivers, are supposed to be doing on those plays.
"He comes to practice and watches. We go over some things when I'm not in -- kind of, what I'm thinking, what he's thinking. I feel like we could have a real good rapport and be a real good receiving corps once he comes back."

The game in Seattle last year proves that "watching" and being "attentive" does not substitute for reps. He needs to get on the field.

I will personally find it very interesting to see how Harbaugh handles MC once he gets healthy. As I said, I don't see JH letting him slack at all once he is healthy enough to play. Of course that will set back the chemistry and timing once again so I don't expect to see a lot for a couple of games once he gets healthy.
At some point, Crabtree is going to have to start performing on the field if he wants the big contract from Dallas that many thinks he dreams of. Michael may want to play in Dallas but until Jerry sees enough of him to WANT HIM TO PLAY IN DALLAS he won't be going to Dallas. (sorry for the side track. I don't like divas.)
