Bob Padecky: worst beat writer?

The board has been a little dead, and this guy has been bothering me. I know the guy has been around forever, but he acts like a columnist, when that's not his job description. Work the beat; don't write opinion pieces. It's just lazy reporting. Now new quotes, fresh storylines, or interviews. I'm happy that Maiocco ot CSN and Eric Branch got the Chron, and I hope Branch does well enough that Lynch gets fired, but I miss looking forward to reading the PD updates. Am I just being the a-hole here, or are other people frustrated with this guy, too?

Definitely.
Not sure if it's the tone of his articles or the content but I always end up a little p*ssed off at the end of his articles... Perhaps it's because I'm used to quality coming out of the PD.
His opinions on Mike Singletary in his latest article on Crabtree irked me somewhat; Singletary didn't have the skills required to be a head coach but he was a great mentor to the linebackers and sure as hell saved VD's career.

I feel you too. I've been reading his stuff and I'm just like... "Who is this guy?"
It's one thing to have an opinion, but he doesn't really back much of it up, or he brings up stuff that doesn't matter. For instance, his most recent article talks about how Crabtree has better numbers than both Terrell Owens and J.J. Stokes when they first started in the league. Then he talks about how Vernon Davis was underperforming when he first started.
1.) Most people haven't given up on Crabtree. I don't know why he decided to blog about it. Sure, some people think he's a diva, but there's still a lot of expectation in Crabtree. When people see his lack of production, the two people that are blamed first are the QB and the Offensive Coordinator.
2.) Then he compares Crabtree's start with Terrell Owens and J.J. Stokes. Crabtree is our #1 primary receiver. Terrell Owens and J.J. Stokes were #2 and #3 to JERRY RICE of all people. Naturally they're not going to have gawdy numbers until TO broke out and Jerry Rice was starting to show signs of age.
Sometimes when I read his work, I feel like some of the posters on the Webzone could write better written opinions.

I don't know where he's been around forever, but I've only started reading his articles as they recently began to be posted on the homepage, and he's pretty bad.
He tries too hard. It's like he's trying to be funny, and stinging, and clever, and yet he doesn't manage to be any of them.
Is this the guy that's taking the place of Eric Branch, who briefly took over for Maiocco?
At some point the home page articles should just follow the good writers and drop certain outlets if the replacements are no good.

Phil Barber came before Eric Branch I believe, but he did well too.

He's still in the honeymoon period and, frankly, there is not much to report right now.
He gets a pass from me until after there is some real 49er news to speak about.

Padecky has been a Press Democrat columnist for many years. Hopefully he's just keeping the seat warm until they find a permanent replacement for Branch.

That's kinda like saying, "For a fat girl, you don't sweat much."
