Answer: J.J. Stokes

I would agree Stokes is the obvious one.

I like how everyone forgot how much of a beast Fred Beasley was for us.

played with the Niners 8 seasons, same as Rathman, but was twice all-pro at FB. was widely considered the best blocking FB in the NFL for several years.

Fred Beasley is the best FB the Niners have had in the last 30 years, no question. everyone is just saying Rathman because he was there in the glory days.

idk... i just think floyd caught the media wave dont get me wrong he was a great fb in the system. i just think 44 set the standard

everyone is basing their Rathman love on some weird legacy. he scored alot for a FB, but most guys would have in the Walsh system.

People love Rathman because he was an old time 49er. he was a big tough guy who did the dirty work for the WCO scheme. i get that, and i agree Rathman was a great Niner, and a very good player. plus being a coach on the staff so many years has made him more popular.

But if you remember back to the late 90's/early 00's when Fred Beasley was here, he was ELITE. there was a span of time from around 2000-2003 where he was considered the very best at what he did in the NFL. he was a 2 time all-pro. he was a big part of the reason Garrison Hearst was so great for us.

honestly this list of players is an easy one. Its Montana, Gore, Beasley, Rice, Jones no question.

VD can pass up Jones if he keeps up this pace, but 2 years of being a top 5 TE isnt enough for me. VD puts up another couple seasons like he has been, he takes over that spot for sure, but right now its still Jones.

It's VD for sure by a mile. He can take a 1 yard pass and go 70. You can't say the same for Brent Jones.

Not even close to the player Rathman was.

oh really? how so.

Rathman
att yards ave lng TD rec yards ave lng TD fmb fmb lost
544 2,020 3.7 35 26 320 2,684 8.4 36 8 3 1

Beasley
att yards ave lng TD rec yards ave lng TD fmb fmb lost
183 610 3.3 44 8 133 1,017 7.6 34 5 3 3

lol offensive stats? offensive stats mean nothing. FB's block. Beasley was hardly ever handed the ball. why? because he was an all-pro run blocker. in his prime he was the strongest, meanest, toughest run blocker in the NFL. i remember so many replays of him just lighting guys up clearing lanes.

you act like Rathman was some kind of chump when it came to blocking. Sorry but Rathman>>>>the rest. go watch some old tape and learn wtf you're talking about because you sir are confused.

when did i say Rathman was a chump? you guys pay way too much attention to offensive stats. William Floyd is getting more votes than Beasley, which is hilarious. Rathman in his prime was never considered all-pro.

What is hilarious is you saying that Beasley is better than Rathman. Floyd gained the popularity of the fans(trust me I know, he is one of my favorite players). Nobody is disregarding what Beasley did for us. Beastly was the man but he was not better than Rathman.

based on what though? throw offensive stats away. the position of FB is a blocking position. if your argument is Rathman was a better offensive player than Beasley, i agree. but as a FB, which is a blocking specialist, Beasley was better. at no point in Rathman's career was he considered all-pro caliber. Beasley was the best FB in the NFL for a stretch of time.

every time i explain that, the only counter is "dude he wasnt better than Rathman". based on what. Beasley was a pro bowler, and all-pro, and was widely considered the best at what he did for a time. Rathman cant say that.

sorry but the FB position in the WCO is not just about blocking. You have to be a complete back to be a FB in the WCO. I can do the same thing you are as well. Get rid of the though of blocking because I want to play your (bend things to go my way game, Even though Rathman was a solid blocker.) Now who is better still? Ohhhh it's Rathman!!! No matter what way you bend or twist it Rathman will always come out on top. To quote the great Mike Singletary "Sorry but you PHail!"

hm, yeah not so much. you still failed to provide a reason why Rathman was better. Beasley was a 2 time all-pro. Rathman wasnt. Beasley was a top 2-3 FB for several years. Rathman wasnt.

Rathman had a better full overall career, but from about 2000-2003 Fred Beasley was the best weve had in a long time. shame that nobody remembers that.

Comparing Rathman and Beasley is moronic. Other than the position they played they had nothing in common, they were used in completely contrasting ways most of the time and had drastically different roles on the team. It's like comparing Antonio Gates and Billy Bajema. Okay, they play the same position on paper, but 99.9% of the time they are used in completely different ways. Trying to say one is better than the other is pointless since they dont even serve the same purpose.

Some Weird Legacy thing??? Obviously Niners99 never saw Rathman play.....he set the STANDARD for ALL FB's, not just 49er FB's....#44 is EASILY better than anyone this franchise has ever had, and most any other FB to play the game....

Beasley was a bad dude, no doubt.....he wasn't Rathman.....Rathman is and always will be the man....NO DOUBT!

Joe Montana, but Young is my all time favorite Niner. I believe Floyd pre-injury was better than Rathman, but I chose Rathman cause he also is one of my all time favorite Niners.

I respect them both. I just like Steve Young's style of play, so I went the lefty. You really can't go wrong with either QB.

I like Vick's style of play better than Brady but there's no way I'd pick him on my team over Brady

Back off dude! We're all entitled to our own opinions. Montana and Young are both fantastic QBs.
