How many years before Harbaugh turns us around?

If last year is any indication, it could happen in the first year. The Chiefs and the Rams went from 4-28 in 2009 to 18- 14 in 2010. Neither one of those teams were as talented as the Niners are now. I don't think I would guarantee this kind of turnaround, but it is possible. If the Baalke and Harbaugh team can score in the draft and the CBA gets done sooner rather than later, I am hoping for the best.

If we have no CBA issue, I think we win the West next season.
We're going to have a CBA issue.

This...
However -- should this work -- you will see automatic, overnight improvement in the way this team plays week in and week out. They may not win much. Walsh didn't win much his first season. But the product on the field was improving. You could see it. We were in almost every game that season before losing control in the 4th quarter.
In other words? You didn't see teams knock us off by a 44-7 score. As I remember -- nobody annihilated us during that first 2-14 season.
There was an exception -- as I recall. It was a preseason game against Seattle. And the SeaChickens were running up the score pretty badly. Walsh didn't want to take the wraps off his offense during games that didn't count -- but things got so bad at one point -- he unveiled the WCO playbook for the first time.
It was a meaningless score in a meaningless game -- but suddenly this beautiful, well-precisioned machine of an offense appeared -- drove the ball down the field -- and scored on a never-before seen tight end reverse.
I remember sitting up and saying "wow." It was a thing of beauty that drive. A thing of beauty.
So -- point is -- you will see dramatic improvement under Harbaugh almost immediately. Wins may take awhile. But -- at least this team will be fun to watch again.
Ummm, how old are you dude? That was back in what, 1979? Not making fun of u at all, just curious as to how old you are.

Those two team also have good, young QB's. The Lambs also have a year head start on us as far as the QB is concerned. As a matter of fact, their major need is WR, & weakside LB. Next year will be the Defense 3rd year in the same system. I believe in Harbaugh & I believe he will get this turned around soon, but we won't be the only team in the division thats improving. The west wont be an afterthought division for long. We may have better overall talent in the west, but Seattle & St. Louis have a head start in learning their respective systems & the Rams have the better QB in the division.

I have no idea how the CBA will effect things.
I'll assume with a normal offseason, we're at least an 8-8 or 9-7 team. I would expect our offense to bump up in the rankings to the middle of the pack. I understand though if the offense struggles. Moving to a new system with likely a rookie QB can be difficult.
I have a feeling our defense will regress, but hopefully not too much. Just as long as we're in the top half.
I think the goal is to be in the top half of the league in offense and defense. I think that would be a good first-season goal.
Harbaugh should get us into the playoffs by Year 2 or 3, but I wouldn't be surprised if he can do it in Year 1.

Just think the unthinkable: the Niners had a couple of lucky bounces, they won the west and Singletary is still here. The nightmare will go on for at least another couple of years as our owner continues to Believe.
Now, due to losing, we have an excellent coach, and an owner who can go off to do owner things, and a stronger front office. The future is bright.
Who knows what the record will be next year. The other teams in this division are well-coached and are young and upcoming, so there is no guarantee of anything but putting down a real foundation for future growth.
That is a turn-around and it has already happened no matter what the record is next year.

Won't see .500 until 2012, and that depends on getting a decent QB in THIS draft.
Also need a pass rushing OLB. The best ones in the draft will go before the 49ers draft so they will have to get lucky.
Next winning season, as it looks right now - 2013. Just missing too many key pieces.

I think he walks into a perfect situation and does what Carroll did this year, only it will be even more convincing. At least I hope so. =)

This year , I expect Harbaugh to instill discipline, and drive. I expect there will be a lot less of the chaos we experienced with Mike S.
That will be a big turn around in itself.

We'll see improvement the first season. Second season we will be a very good team.

Carroll had an experienced QB - HUGE difference.
We can all be hopeful but "hopeful" doesn't play quarterback.

If we are not in the playoffs by year 3 he will be out.
