Hopefully the QBs on our team right now are not on the roster..
Id take Alex as a back up though, but we need to draft (luck? :D) or sign a qb to start right next year..

I hope we keep Alex as a backup, but not sure if that bridge hasn't been burned already.
A. Smith's 49ers years were so miserable that I don't think he wants to prolong.

I think we'll probably have to carry 4 QBs next year. I know that sounds lame, but when you don't have any idea who's a starter or who's a backup you're basically just gambling that someone steps up. If that's the case, I'd rather up the odds by having one more QB that might be that guy.

You people are F'ing nuts that want to have Troy Smith be our #1 QB next year. And yes, I would have said that before today's game if I had seen this thread before now.

I don't think anyone meant having Troy Smith has our #1 for any serious length of time. But if we can't get anyone else, he's probably the number one until our rookie QB is ready to come in.

Nah I don't think so, TB exposed him pretty bad today. Keep him in the pocket and he can't see over the line and make throws down the middle of the field. We need to draft a rookie and go with em the way BMore did with Flacco, or maybe a guy like Holmgren comes in and we trade for a guy like Kolb. But in no way can we hope to go into next year with TSmith as the starter and expect to win games.

Bradford is not a natural pocket passer. He came from a spread offense. What has made Bradford good is OC Pat Shurmur. Shurmur built the offense around what Bradford could do and spoon fed him new stuff as he could handle it. He almost always has three targets to throw to and one of them, Danny Amendola, is one of the better WRs in the league at reading defenses and getting the first down.
Once again, it all comes back to coaching. Put Bradford on the 49ers and he would be junk. He would learn nothing from this bunch.

In my perfect world, I'd love to see us grab a veteran like Orton, Romo or Kolb. Then we could keep Troy Smith as our back up. As far as our number 3? Who cares? Maybe just a good locker room leader. An older veteran maybe. I want a proven qb. I'd be very happy drafting Luck, Mallet, or Locker. I'm just not thrilled with the idea of throwing a rookie to the wolves.

Look, until this team puts together a DECENT OL, no respectable FA QB will come here. And any rookie QB, no matter how talented, can possibly thrive under the situation that prevails here now. This team is going to have to get its house in order before any QB can have success here.
