oldman,
On your 4th quarter review, can you check to see how many times Alex sticks his spot in that last step and stays there? I'm thinking he doesn't shuffle forward enough to the center of the pocket and stays in the back of the pocket too often being a direct line target for the Ends.
Without knowing for certain, I think you have a point with this. Alex does need to learn to move up in the pocket earlier to buy his linemen some extra time.
He has been extremely good when he has and there are many times this year the front of the line has created a very nice cushion. That cushion wasn't there last year for him to step up.
I think one of the realistic issues with Smith is that he has been "trained" by the offensive line to be fearful rather than trusting with their poor blocking the last few years. The new line is beginning to gel and hopefully Smith will learn to trust the line to give him that one last half of a second to wait for things to develop and then get the ball out before the sack. I think that is an across the board issue.
Regarding Oldmans analysis. I like your stuff old man and I enjoy reading the detail. I still would like a short summation when you are done regarding trends, accomplishments, progress, good and bad, etc. That would be icing on the cake for me.
