Im not 100% sure but IMO its Manuskys scheme

spencer never use to do that

oh its the scheme....Carolina spread the field throughout the 4th quarter....and we played Nolan's Big Nickel. With the DBs playing well off the WRs. It is the sheme....we play prevent, and the offense picks us apart, not just us....any team that plays prevent.

Okay good haha.
ALL traces of NOLAN and SING need to GTFO. This D wont be good untill then
Yes I agree our defense did not start where it left off last season. IMO this is partly due to Aubrayo Franklin holding out trying to get his long term contract. His time away from TC has showed in he's getting handled too many times with one linemen and allowing pulling guards to centers to get Willis. Our CBs are slow, long in the tooth, and cant recover or cover speed when needed with man to man coverage. Too many times we're using zones because we cant match up man to man (athleticism) on these WRs. Combine that with no legit/dominant pass rush specialist and our DBs are really exposed. Our front seven is average to good, but not great or dominant. See Vikings front seven.

Why its a valid topic that NEVER gets talked about.

D= s**t
basically the softest coverage I have ever seen. Seems like the scheme is a 15 yard cushion to allow repeated uncontested completions right on down the field. That rookie WR for carolina made Clements look like the slow bum he really is.

That's the $64,000 question isn't it? What we're doing on defense makes no sense whatsoever. We play a 3-4 formation, but play it with a 4-3 nickle mindset. The blitz is the 3-4's fangs, but we shirk the blitz. When the game is on the line we soften our already flaccid shell and wonder why we've been dinked and dunked to death yet again.

We're running the Winchester Mystery House of defenses.

Everybody blames the offense, and I don't disagree, but our defense hasn't played up to expectations this year, either. In 4 close losses, the defense has failed to make plays when needed to provide wins. Our pass rush isn't there, coverage isn't there, and the D-line isn't keeping players away from Willis so he can make plays. With slightly better defensive play, I'd say we're easily at least a 3-4 win team right now and well in the mix for the division.

Greg Manusky is really bad. I mean WTF always prevent D when we are up and it's the end of the game. Vanilla D, I rather get the best CB then a QB in the draft.
How many times have we seen Manusky go into the prevent soft defense at the end of the game and let the other team move right down the field and score? How can you teach players to finish a game when your DC pulls this kind of crap.

Two reasons:

1. Nate Clements has struggled all season long in press coverage so Manusky has to play a zone with Nate off the line. The few times he did press, he was burned on double moves, one for the first TD Today was even worse because Clements had an injury that looked like it was hindering his movement. All of this makes the soft coverage a safer choice.

2. Lack of consistent pressure on the passer forces the secondary to play softer.

CONCLUSION: Pass rusher and CB should be the two highest priorities in the draft...except that we may now need a QB just as badly since it is now almost certain Smith will not be back next year.

Fire Manusky!!!!!

this season's woes have more to do with inability of the D to hold a lead than anything about the QB position.

our D sucks and was highly overrated going into this season.

Our D was definetily overrated but there's only 4 teams in the league whose defense gives up less than 17 points a game.

Our offense consisantly puts up 13 points and no surprise we're sitting at 1-6 right now.
