OK, bear with me here...I was just curious as to what everyone else thought. Is this team sucking because of bad coaching or just a lack of overall talent? I'm sure it's probably both, but what do you think the biggest problem is? I mean, after watching this game, I came away with the impression that we're not as talented as we thought we were, mainly on offense. We have no speed, for example. Speed changes the game. Crabtree is slower than I thought he'd be. Our fastest players are at the TE position. None of our WRs have breakaway speed and nobody can stretch the field. That might change when Ginn comes back, but I doubt it. He has horrible hands anyway and can't be trusted. Also, our team makes bonehead mistakes. I feel like this is one of the dumbest teams in the league for some reason.
However, personally, I think the reason why we're 0-3 is the coaching. I believe that we do have enough talent to win ball games and make the playoffs. I think with the right coaches we could be sitting at 3-0 right now. The problem is PHILOSOPHY. What I mean is, in the past, we had coaches that wanted to win, and win big. Just look at our last Super Bowl victory (49-26). We dominated. The goal back then was to DOMINATE. We wanted to destroy opponents, surprise them, dismantle them, etc. We wanted to embarrass you and then rest our starters, on YOUR turf. How quickly things have changed.
Singletary's philosophy is completely different. He wants to run the ball into a wall 3 straight times and take time off the clock. He wants to be tough. He wants Jimmy Raye to be his puppet and call nice, safe plays so that there are no turnovers. He wants to keep the game close. The problem with this is that in today's NFL, big plays are what wins games. The team with the most big plays always seem to win the games (assuming you don't turn the ball over). If you aim to destroy an opponent, you might only win by 10 points. If your aim is to JUST keep the game close and HOPEFULLY win the game at the end, it ain't gonna work half the time. It's like in school if you aim for an A you might get a B, but if you aim for a C, or to barely pass, you end up with a D.
Look at the Saints game. We kept it close, but we still lost in the final seconds. Maybe if we were a bit more aggressive to start with, we wouldn't have been in that situation. It seems like it's the same crap every week. Start out slow, adjust to what the other team is doing, look decent in the end, lose, and hope next week it carries over. It never does, because it's always back to square one. Like a bunch of monkeys, I swear. We're not keeping teams on their toes, we're just REACTING to what they're doing and HOPING to hang around. Why? We have the freakin' talent to do more, I believe.
So, I think the problem is our coaches lack killer instinct. This philosophy might work if you have the Chicago Bears '84 defense and Walter Payton, but we don't. Our team is like the Flintstones and the rest of the league is like the Jetsons right now. Until we get some creative, modern coaches, I think we'll continue to get embarrassed. Singletary and Raye are to blame and I can't wait for them to be fired. Anyone with me or do you think the players are the problem?
you just gotta take a look at seattle
Half their team consist of new players and they just look bad on paper
new HC
new GM
The result ?
A 2-1 record
Coaches or players ?
i'd say right now coaches
The problem won't be fixed this season, let's hope it is during the off season ...

~ We are way overrated on offense.
~ We lack speed on offense except at TE.
~ Scheme and philosophy are a huge part of the problem.
~ Coaching game management and X's and O's are a huge part of the problem.
It's all of those and more.

Both but I'd say 60/40 in favor of the coaches not getting their job done.

The Chiefs are VERY similar to us.
Strong run D...strong running attack and weak passing game and pass defense in the middle of the field...especially TEs
Contrast how they attacked us to our "game plan"
We all know our weak links on defense are the OLB opposite Lawson. Haralson/Brooks/Laboy can't stop the run and have piss poor technique. Lawson can seal the edge most of the time. The announcers even mentioned how Brooks failed to keep his outside shoulder free to stop runs his way.
The Chiefs focused on that for their running game. They also spread their weapons and forced us to play honest defense. Charles + McCluster speed used to threaten multiple parts of the field even if they didn't see the ball.
In the passing game they used screens...everyone should run those on us. They also focused on Bowman...a rookie LB. Smart game planning.
All of that is COACHING.
What did we do? Gore up the gut....gore up the gut....gore up the gut.
The problem is caveman football.

Agreed but even if we had speed (Ginn does) we wouldn't use it anyway. KC has something with McCluster and Charles.

mostly coaches, but smith plays a big part in why we are probably the worst team in the NFL. We have the talent, minus QB, to be a good, contending team. Smith will 90% of the time, dump the ball to the RB or underneath guy in any passing situation. Down by 3 TD's in the 4th, 3rd and 10, dump it to the rb in the flats for a 2 yard gain. Brilliant!!!! Jimmy Raye is an inept f**king moron. But at least he tried something new. The patented "Flea flicker, roll right to throw out of bounds" play. It worked to perfection. Brilliant!!! Singletary is a hard headed, numb drill sergeant who sticks by his man Raye, not matter how idiotic he may be. Which in turn makes him look like a dumbass. This season is f**ked! The coaching staff is unable to come up with any answers. Why? Because THEY are mainly the problem, that's why. It looks like we'll end up with a high pick and that pick better be a QB. If only we could dump owners. Since we can't, we f**king better dump singletary and raye.

It's BOTH.
We lack team speed. We have speed at ILB with Willis and Bowman. OLB has speed, but no speed in terms of pass rush skills. We lack speed at safety (with the exception of Taylor Mays, but the knock on him was that he had straight line speed, but not functional speed). We have no speed at corner. This fatal flaw dictates the type of defenses we run, with predictable results.
We have one of the biggest lines, but only average speed. We have great speed a tight end, but no speed (except for Ginn) at WR. We don't have speed at running back.
But aside from this crucial issue, the rest of it is coaching. No imagination in the game plans. No use of tactics to our advantage. No adjustments. It takes more than emotional speeches to make players feel like they can't be beaten. It takes preparation.

Even with an avg QB, the other talent we have should pick him up and make him look better.
Coaching is lacking on this team. Until Raye is gone, we're gonna look totally predictable on offense.

Ok, I just read Singletary's post-game remarks. I'm now convinced he is as delusional as Raye is senile. He is asked why he continued to run the ball with a FB in the game, while down by 3 TD's...and he gives an explanation that translates (to me, anyway) that we were NOT trying to win, we were just trying not to lose worse.
Then he is asked if the problems is the coaching or the execution - and he says the execution?? He said "it’s just one of those things where a coach can call a play, but the bottom line is we have to execute it." Wow sorry coach. Sorry that Gore can't break 10 tackles and a 60 yard run with 10 men in the box and Raye waving a sign that says "HEY CHIEFS, WE'RE GONNA RUN IT RIGHT UP THE MIDDLE, K?".
I think this also answers any speculation about him stepping down and resigning. He is too stupid to realize he is part of the problem.

Not a big fan of Raye, but I lean toward philosophy. Singletary appears a modern day Woody Hayes (3 yards and a cloud of dust).

A different coach would not help this team because you still have Alex Smith and #76. We got rid of Mike Nolan and he has since had success in Denver and Miami because all coaches know strategy but the execution is done by the players.

These are conservative old coaches. They don't like turnover, no one does, but they clammed up in their game plan and takes no risk. We turned the ball over 4 times in the Saints' game. Half of them just from good defensive plays and a little bit of luck. They go into KC, home crowd noise, they puckered up and never bother to test KC's secondary. Take the short 5yds pass and wait for Gore to break one. Meanwhile, the defense gets sliced and diced in a bad way. This offense starts with Gore but it doesn't have to end with him. But it was Gore from start to finish waiting for Gore to beat KC.
Very sad
