our first team offense

the sky's not falling we got s**t to work on though
LIKE-

God i love watching Nate Davis throw a football. After having to watch Smith, JTosull and Dilfer, its pretty nice to watch a legit throwing motion. Cant believe it's so hard to ask for.

Dixon was a beast, straight up. He made some defenders look stupid, 2 string or not.

DISLIKE-

No shot we win a game in the playoffs with this offensive gameplanning. Its downright not fair to this team, and I can't believe no one else can see this.
I was really rooting for Nate Clement to come back strong this year. When I went to TC I didn't think he looked that good. This game only confirmed it. I sure hope he is able to shake the rust off and shows us that last year was just a slump.

Spencer on the other hand seems to be the most underrated CB in the NFL. You just dont hear his name called (Thats a good thing).

I really like Goldson, but it will be interesting to see how Reggie Smith emerges. Will Goldson play be that much better than Reggie to warrent an Antrell Roll type pay day?

I would be curious to hear the coaches opinion of RJF's performance. To my untrained eye, I didn't see much of a drop off from Franklin. If his only job was to clog the middle he sure did a good job.

I use to think defenses would shut Davis down as soon as enough film was out on his deep post play. The problem? You just can't stop it. He is such a miss match that unless you are willing to sell out to stop him, he is probably going to catch that 2 to 3 times a game.

Yeah. Yeah. I know it's preseason. Dont get your panties in a bunch.

I'm disappointed in Alex Smith for muffing that Punt Return.

I'm disappointed in Alex Smith for fumbling the ball on the first play from scrimmage.

I'm just pissed Alex Smith didn't make the sun shine today!

HAHA!

you dont game plan in the preseason
I won't get too high or too low over any of this ------ it's pre-season.

I liked

Nate Davis
Lyle Williams
Anthony Dixon
Diyral Briggs
Bruce Davis
RJR
and in general I like our depth

I would like to see improvement in pass blocking (Rachal & Davis) , and special teams coverage.

It's pre-season
Like:

Anthony Dixon looks like a player. Big, powerful runner with a nice burst, wiggle waggle and vision. I know it is just one game but man he looked good.

Ricky Jean-Francois: looked like a legit starter out there. Really active vs the run.

Diyral Briggs- My guy Briggs continues to impress. He was very, very active in the game. I think he makes the team and LaBoy gets cut.

Kyle Williams: Really, quick, sudden, explosive player. We have our PR!

Reggie Smith: Has had a great TC and had a very nice game.

Mike Iupati: He looked run and pass blocking.

Dislike:

Alex Smith- I wasn't expecting a great game but man i thought he would be at least solid but honestly he looked pretty bad.

Chilo Rachal- Still very inconsistent. Looks good on one play and then lost on another. Really struggled in pass protection.

Anthony Davis- He did ok in run blocking but in pass protection he is a long ways away from being an NFL starter.

Our WR's did not look good and looked scared out there.

Michael Robinson is not an NFL running back.
We never saw the first team offense today, so I'll hold my judgement. Overall, I enjoyed watching the young guys play. Davis and Iupati looked promising, Mays made a very nice tackle in the backfield, and Kyle Williams looked EXPLOSIVE in the return game. Man did that ever feel good to witness... it has been awhile.

here are some of the things i liked this week

LIKED:
starting D - shut out the colts O after the MROB fumble (only in for 1 possesion

kyle williams- is really quick gonna be a great return specialist for us

anthony dixon - solid runner if he gets in shape a it more he can be a solid #2 RB and maybe become a #1 back later in his career (granted its 1 preseason game lol)

mike iupati- he did great against the run and the pass

david Baas- he couldve definitally did worse (was expecting him too)

anthiny davis run blocking- he ws a solid run blocker

Dislikes-
chilo rachal and anthony davis pass blocking- too much pressure and mis blocks definitively need to work on that before the season starts

all WR and TE- too many dropped passes this needs to be worked on ASAP

playcalling : 3rd and long screen really?

on the fence:

alex smith: i really didnt expect the offense to work today because of the 3 new o line men and especially without gore and crabtree alex made solid throws except for 2 IMO on the rollout he couldve thrown the ball a bit better and the throw that was completely behind davis however i am not too worried about that because they have been hitting that all season last year and all of practice

the wrs are look likes a cowards!! i dislike it!!

Especially Ted Ginn. He is definitely not the guy for kr/pr. He looked scared on almost every play......

The offense usually takes a while and longer than the defense to get going. Though we don't have the excuse of being in a new system again this year. That being said we do have a new O-Line coach and a new blocking scheme and we are starting two rookies on the O-line plus Crabtree was out yesterday. I think we'll be okay but there is some cause for concern with Alex because man he did not look good yesterday. He looked like he did his rookie year. Nervous, tentative and missing open receivers.
Sounds like Kyle Williams could be out a few weeks

I'll tell you what I don't like, the right side of the starting O-line. Rachal and Davis got owned. I don't care if it was Davis' first game, first round picks should play better than that IMO. Don't get started on Rachal, how this guy is still starting is beyond me. He sucked last year, and it looks like he's gonna suck this year.

I didn't like Alex at first sight either. But since, I've read (Sando blog from ESPN) that some of the blame for his poor play should go to the recievers. He better improve the next time around though or I'll be on the Nate Davis bandwagon in a hurry.

Another thing I didn't like was the playcalling early on. I know it's preseason and teams don't really gameplan and what not, but come on Jimmy Raye! I would've never guessed that first play from scrimmage, run up the middle. With MRob of all people! Seriously! That first play was all I needed to see. The middle of the line got blown up, resulting in MRob getting mugged at the LOS and loosing the ball. BRILLIANT! Raye is a genius, lets run the ball with a 3rd string (at best) running back to start the game.

What I did like was Dixon. That guy looks like a beast. That guy is the ONLY reason the offense was able to move the ball during the game. Indy had no choice but to play run, which allowed the Niners QBs to throw the ball.
Briggs looked really good also. He looks a little bigger than he did last season, but still played with some speed.
Williams! Finally someone with the balls to actually return a punt! I got so tired of seeing the Niner punt returners call for fair catches last season.
Boone looked pretty decent against the scrubs. I wonder if he can RT?
Reggie Smith looked really good also.

If Rachal doesn't pull it together and Baas shows the ability to play center I am all for moving Hietmann to RG and letting him take over there when he gets healthy.
First. Alex was 6-9
he had a dropped swing route that was perfect( I doubt the play was designed the way Robinson ran it, alex would have to throw it backwards)
he had the INT over the middle that has been talked about way too much already.
The screen to ginn. Thaat is a catch I expect my nephews peewee WR to make.

He'll his only bad pass was the (not) TD to Davis.

His roll out left looked ad-libbed, it looked like it was to be. A quick throw that wasn't there.

Then a dumpoff to robinson(?) as his right side(ol)takes a break.

Our2nd string MLBs seem lie they are scared to hit someone. The colts 1st td does not happen if spkies is in.

I didn't watch the 2nd half as I had a fundraiser to go to.
