I believe the 2nd video was a MNF game and Niners were down a couple of scores late (including a couple of BS penalties like roughing the QB who was out of the pocket and Def Pass Interference even though CB had his hands away from WR and Rams player fell down on his own). You could see Seifert was pissed off (same with me and my dad when we watched it). Anyway, JT gives us two big TD plays on similar routes and we come from behind to win it! Rams = FAIL!

I was at this game as it was in Anaheim. I was 9. It those two TDs were SOOOOO badass, as was the come back. JT is in my Top 10 favorite Niners ever. IMO, he would have been a perennial Pro Bowler (not just as a PR) on most other teams, but he had to share the ball with Rice, Craig, Rathman, & later on, Brent Jones, so he didn't have the numbers.

He really advanced the physicality of the WR position.
JT was a physical with an F player. Had one of the most wicked stiff-arm next to G. Hearst. Rice can turn on the speed after the catch but I think Taylor was better run after catch guy. I remember reading Walsh talking about naming one of the player he liked or thought of highly. He named John Taylor as the one player that could do anything Walsh ask and do it well, as evident on the video highlights. The dude can play WR, block, throw the ball, punt return, RAC, and I'm sure he could play DB cause I've seen him put a lick on those DBs too.

If you were a fan at the time, you realized very quickly that JT could start and be a ProBowler on any other team.

Just last week my friends and I were riding to the casino and talking about the greatest WR's of all time and my best friend suprised me when he said "Who was that WR that played with Jerry Rice?". When I said his name he said thats right that guy was a great WR that never got any credit. I even just looked at a post of favorite 49ers on the webzone and John Taylor was missing from the list!

This is my offical appreciation to John Taylor. A Niner that should not and will not be forgotten!!!!

You can add Eric Wright and Michael Carter to the list of under appreciated 49ers.

At least Eric Wright made the HOF.

Eric Wright is not in the HOF

Not exactly, but if the 49ers had a HOF, he would be in it.

A John Taylor jersey would be a good buy.
jerry rice said it best on his episode of americas game, taylor could have gone anywhere else and been a #1 wr
Most underrated receiver ever... Art Monk is a close second, but I don't even think JT made a pro bowl. Did he?
I can't believe at one point we had Jerry Rice and John Taylor as WRs and Deion Sanders and Eric Davis as DBs.

LOL that should have been illegal.

That is so true...wow, did we have talent back then! I was probably about 12/13 yrs old when I watched this game. I remember my dad recorded it on VHS, so I got to see the Niners comeback victory despite the refs BS penalties...one of my favorite games to watch over and over again. Taylor's style reminds me a little of Delanie Walker in the sense that he's not a speedy WR, but has good hands and stiff arms/breaks tackles well.

This isn't the first time JT got his props on the Zone, but glad to see it again.m I always thought he was one of the best all-around (let alone wide receivers) we ever had and easily could have been the # 1 on other teams. Plus, he was the definition of a team player; would do anything asked of him and didn't seek the limelight. Here's to you, JT!

He made it at least twice. Once as a returner, the other as a WR.

If #80 wasn't on the same team he probably would have been a hall of famer. His yards per catch average is higher than a lot of all time greats, including Rice.

Gotta love it (the Rams game)-I lived in LA at the time and the lamb fans looked at me the next day at work a little ticked cause I had a big grin, didn't say a word.

Yeah, what I loved about taylor is that he made you pay if you were paying to much attention to rice, but also he was the consumate team player, never bad mouthing his teammates or crying throw me the damn ball, was just as happy knocking your a$$ on the ground to spring craig etc.
J.T. lives in fresno, I play in a golf tournament yearly with ex niner and raider players and they have yet to get J.T. I always wonder if they know he is local or maybe he turns them down. I do know he plays alot of golf so it should be an easy hookup?
