hahah morgan sucks. let's sign TO already
oh my god, its the first day of OTAs. its not even training camp. will everyone stop jumping to conclusion? one good day of OTAs doesnt mean that all of a sudden alex smith is going to the pro bowl. even thinking about the pro bowl is absurd. even if alex has proven himself, hes on a run first team in the NFC. whos his competition? oh, no one really.. just a guy named drew brees, or a guy named aaron rodgers, or possibly tony romo, or maybe some guy named brett favre. hahaha give me a break.

the f**k are you talking about? yeah it's the first day of OTA's, so what? If Matt is updating his blog about any player on our team having an amazing day of practice, maybe our fans would like to know that, and even more so if it's our quarterback. Who's jumping to conclusions? First response to this thread was saying "or we can hope." No one is comparing Alex to any of these great QBs lol

Isn't Spencer, Clements, Willis, and a few other starters not on the field, and haven't for the duration of OTAs?

Smith is dominating against 2nd tier secondary players. Progress I guess?

In the mood for hyperbole? Today was Alex Smith's best practice with 49ers. He took 30 of final 32 snaps of work with 18 of 19 passing.

yea, that one miss:

Smith hits Josh Morgan in the back of the end zone, but Morgan drops it.

This. It means next to nothing in the big picture - wins and losses are what count - but it is MORE of the consistent encouraging news that we've heard this off season, and that's cause for guarded optimism.
Breaking down OTA's plays like this is a major fail. Good to hear but it's really over analyzing things and giving false hope whether if the news is good or bad. Like last year they breaking down Brooks not running as hard and as fast and finishing up in the last group of guys while running. and folks were calling him out for it. still this is positive, but nothing to take to seriously imo.
wonder if the defense is practicing blitzes. i mean i can hit 18 of 19 jumpers in my driveway without pressure, but put a defender in my face trying to block my shot and im just average. i am pro-alex, and the news of him being more of a vocal leader is encouraging, but we are talking about practice.
This is what is not getting my hopes up.

vs. Scott McKillop in 7-on-7. #49ers
vs. Reggie Smith.
vs. Navorro Bowman. #49ers
vs Tarell Brown comes up hobbling.

There isn't anything else Alex can do right now other than be as poised, accurate, and authoritative as possible. Yes, it is against a rag-tag version of our D but that's not Alex's fault. From everything I've heard this offseason he is doing everything he needs to to get ready for the season.

I like the phrase "guarded optimism". And being a probowl QB is very much a function of the record of the team and the number of nationally televised games. So we will have to wait and see.
practicing the execution of TD's is +win
