The thing is, if Alex starts looking like a GOOD QB after a few wins early, he will indeed have come "from nowhere." Whether they knew he has been progressing or not doesn't really matter because he hasn't done anything on the field to make anyone believe such success is on it's way. So, even if they were fully aware of these things, his successful play will still have come "from nowhere."

I, for one, would like to see the guy become a GOOD QB. I've discussed reasons why I believe that may never happen, but I hope to be proven wrong; especially since we don't seem willing to upgrade the position through trade or the draft anytime soon.

I want success for this team. If Alex Smith can provide that, not just in the regular season but in the post-season as well, then I welcome being proven wrong with open arms.

Wishful thinking. Let's deal in reality. The reality is that Alex has yet to actually win a starting QB job in the pros. It's always been handed to him. Let's hope he finally wins it for once. If not, lets do a Jamarcus Russell and Tim Couch and cut our losses.
