As noted above, it is this yr or never, BUT...alex has same OC as last yr for the first time ever, and he has staley, poti, AD, Sims, Rachal, and hopefully we can find ONE guy to snap the ball (plus block) out of snyder, heitmann, baas, rags, wallace. Not at first, but gradually, and hopefully by game 4 , this OL will finally come together, and we will know if alex is the one or not.

I have stayed neutral on this issue, always reminding the detractors, that PEYton, johnny U, montana, terry Bradshaw, and the like couldn't possibly have done any better under our disgusting OL, HC, and OC circumstances. It took 5 yrs after being drafted for the team to address the OL, but by gosh, they finally did, and my money is on alex to put on a show. If not, then we got hoodwinked. He finally has the tools in front of him and enough good receivers to show us his wares. I have been in favor of the best guy out there being successful and i sure hope it is alex. This time put up or leave. My guess he puts on a show for us. If not, bring on the next guy, whoever it is.

This.

I've taken a beating from the straight up haters about Smith. If he does what I expect from him, then man I'm going to rent a catering truck and it going to be serving up Crow. Crow Tacos, crow burgers, crow links, crow filets, crow shakes, crow phosphates, crow mein, sweet and sour crow, crow tempura(for the Vegan in the crowd) and beer battered crow.

If it goes the other way then I'll be the first in line so the food won't go to waste. But I won't have to. Alot of people here have talked alot of shiznet about the guy.

Bring on the season the lunch wagon is here.

This gets me fired up!!! I can't wait for this season to begin.
Found post from last year, you can't put too much into what players say-

Concerning what some of our players and coaches think and have thought about Hill...

Staley: "Shaun is a great quarterback. You really can’t dispute his numbers. He’s put up great numbers since he’s been a starter, even going to last year, he’s undefeated at home. You definitely need to be able to win at home, and that’s something he does. He’s a great leader... Shaun has proven he can lead this team to wins."

Frank Gore: "Shaun Hill is a football player. He’s a tough guy... every time he got his opportunity he showed that he could play football. As long as you have a tough guy under center, you have a great shot to win games and Shaun Hill showed that."

Darrell Jackson: "I like his swagger, the way he carries himself, he's very confident he can make every pass on the field, and it shows. He's a great leader. Guys really, really like playing with him." "I've been waiting to have a game like this since I came here. I had a lot of fun playing ball tonight. I thank Shaun Hill and the coaches for calling my number."

Vernon Davis: "He’s for real, Shaun Hill is for real." "I just love him. I felt comfortable around him." "The communication is good." "He's going to get through his reads, and he's going to give you a shot. If you're open, he's going to pop you right away."

Heitmann: "Without a doubt, I think Shaun’s always been a guy who we knew, especially the offensive line, could come in and play and play at a high level." "I’m not going to pick favorites, but I think Shaun’s done a tremendous job."

Staley: "We've all known he is a natural leader." "I love him, I'll block for him." "(Hill) lets me know that I'm respected on this team and that he loves me... and that makes me happy, happy as a 49er and in turn makes me play well." Up Close with Joe Staley

Q: There are some that think Shaun Hill is not as talented.... but maybe he’s a better game manager.
Singletary: "He (Montana) didn’t have the greatest arm strength in the world, but Joe could manage the game and he could take the game where it needed to go. I look at the quarterback position, it’s kind of quirky. It’s kind of crazy how you try and figure it out, but you just need a football player. All of the other stuff is just for the scouts, but you need a football player who can do whatever you need to do for the team to win."

Its true that every off season the players say good things about everything and everyone. Optimism everywhere. But while they may sugar coat and leave out all things negative, they don't lie. You'll notice that in all the comments about Hill they talk about his fire, his leadership, and his winning record (at the time). All true. No one said he had amazing physical abilities, a strong arm, etc. etc.

That's why the comments about Alex are noteworthy. We've heard before how he's throwing the ball well and looking healthy. We've never heard that he's taking command of the huddle, running practice, yelling instructions at the line, etc etc. We're hearing it this off season for a reason.
im hoping this is the season that he brings it all together

This. I think these guy's that sit and are constantly negative should make us a bet. If we make the play-offs with Alex at the helm, you shouldn't be able to watch the 1st play-off game. I.M.O you don't deserve to. I mean you're constantly negative about the QB of our team. And suddenly you're going to support him? That doesn't seam right to me. You should be supporting him now, he's the QB of the 49ers. Rather it be Nate Davis, David Carr, you should want him to suceed. Even if you think he wont.

I'll leave my be up to you!

Throwing to VD, haha I mean seriously he throws behind Crabtree for example on MNF, yet MC is so darn talented it's still a TD, yet can consistently throw to VD. Of course those even rookie QB's find their TE, lil' fantasy tip if a decent TE has a rookie QB or a sucky one expect that TE to play well this season. Examples: Zach Miller with Jamarcus, Dustin Keller with Sanchez, and of course Alex with maybe the best TE in all the land.

On the other hand, a lot of the issues with Crabtree and our other receivers had to do with making a switch at QB during the season. Just wait until Alex and company get their timing and route running together. This offense should look so much more improved!

Ya of course because, of our two 1st rounders, Teddy Ginn, MC and Josh getting better, I mean it's really Gore and Co. I mean Alex is what about our worst offensive starter him or Rachel, either one and hopefully they can both be replaced by some quality guys by next year.

What is your problem dude... No faith?

Why would someone have in faith in something or someone that has crippled your franchise for the last 5 years, and the position that he's played has single handedly kept you from winning our division the last 2 seasons. I mean the guy isn't even the best QB in the Bay Area anymore. We have a ceiling because our QB still holds us back. I can't imagine how ridiculous we'd be if we would gone wit A-Rod way back when, let alone McNabb or Campbell or one of the 2 very promising rookie QBs this off-season. I hope Gore one can stay healthy and gets like 350 touches our best bet this year especially with the much improved o-line is 3 yards and a cloud of dust and at the same time find ways for our talented WR/TE core to get the ball, just don't put to much on our really only weakness on offense our QB.

Correction: The only thing that held us back since 2005 was a cancer "leading this team" by the name of Mike Nolan. Sure he did a good job of building this roster compared to what he started with, but Nolan had no long term plan for the future. Between our revolving of OC's and Nolan's ego, Alex never had a chance with Nolan in charge of this franchise.

Once Singletary took over the controls, the improvement in this team was obvious to everyone. Singletary has added the stability that we have all been pleading for. Now Alex has a fighting chance to succeed.

That's bogus, Jason Campbell for example had maybe a bigger moron and last year less weapons and proved he can be a decent QB, Alex had Sing, Gore, VD, MC etc. The man couldn't beat our JTO or Shaun Hill in TC and the pre-season, I mean jeez. If we had a Campbell a McNabb errrr uh A-Rod let alone the last 2 years with Nolan or Zorn for that matter we win the division, the only good thing about missing the Playoffs 2 years ago was Nolan got fired and we promoted a really good coach to be a really good HC. Last year was pathetic, Hill did the job till the the Falcons game till for whatever reason he stopped playing good NFL football, and then we're stuck with sucky Alex the rest of the year. We had easy opportunities to actually get a QB worth talking going into to this year and we choked AGAIN. If we make the Playoffs this year it will be in spite of Alex like the Panthers a couple years ago with Jake Delhomme. Part of me wants us to miss the Playoffs again that way it will be easier for our brass to get either get rid of the dummy ie Alex or just put him as a back up and get a QB worth talking about, now I want us to succeed no matter what, but we need a QB, we don't have one and we need one.

Dont worry dude, Alex will be replaced by D. Carr before the 5th game.

Do you still own your JTO and Shaun Hill jersey or did you trade them in for a David Carr jersey already?

I hope so too. Every year there's always shiny optimism about our QB's, then when the season comes, we're talking about mistakes, blaming this, that and so on. I swear our defense would be top 10 easily if our offense could get it together.

Alex had little to do with not winning the west last year tho, he put up nice stats in 10 games......

We've all heard that urban meyer quote, and I don't see any reason to dispute it now.

If Alex can't do it this year, he's not gonna do it period. But me hearing that Alex is "running half of practice" actually makes me excited, because it sounds a lot like what Peyton does. And if he can be 85% of the player Peyton is, that might just be good enough.

I agree with the practice thing, but asking Alex to be or produce 85% of what Peyton does is a bit of a strecth. Let's say 50-60%
