Early, but I'll disagree.

I envision him making it as an extra DB and the primary punt returner. I believe the team envisions Williams as the future at Slot receiver.

Leroy has a better shot at making this team if Ginn impresses as a position player. I see 3rd or even 2nd wr slots up for grabs if Ginn plays well. If Ginn is even the 3rd wr, Sing will be reluctant to having him returning punts.

My doubt is based on his inability to add anything in value outside of returning. And, as you know, you have to play multiple positions of need when gaining the last slot on a roster.

In the end, I expect Ginn to be the unquestioned PR/KR when the season begins, unless:
1) He gets injured
2) He starts for the team at WR

Stranger things have happened, but I just think he's going to be our number 5 CB. I think Stoudamire has a better chance to make the roster, since he can play on defense and contribute on special teams.

We'll see in the end.
He will be kept on the roster when all is said and done, even though he doesent play any other position.

Case in point. Devin Hester. He came out of Miami as a DB with some experience at WR. The Bears took him, and played him primarily as a PR, while trying to find and groom him as either a WR or DB. A few years later while playing as their main PR guy, they finally chose a position for him to groom at WR.

I think this will be exactly what the 49ers have in mind when it comes to Vann. Keeping him on the roster as a DB, but playing him strictly as a PR. This of course his brittle body doesnt break, or get hurt.

I think MadDog is right in the sense that Vann has a big uphill climb to make the team. But given the statements about Ginn lately (that he'll play more WR than we all originally thought) and the fact that they put Vann in on offense when Williams was out says to me that they will give Vann every opportunity to prove that he can do more than be a returner. Its hard to see all three guys making the 53, but I don't think its impossible. IMO, this is the most interesting battle this summer.
I think he'll make it. We've kept Marcus Hudson the past few years just for his special teams contributions.

Hudson did have the size to step into CB if we needed him, Vann is just a lil guy.

But I do think he makes it.

This guy is lightning fast in his highlights,it seems like when he catches the ball he goes from 1st gear to 5th in a hurry!

Nice signing by the 49ers and nice name too by the way.

Does anybody know the 40 on this guy if he has one?
He didnt get drafted for a reason.

Im just saying that even a guy like Ginn who has comparitively more talent than this guy was only worth a 5th rounder. So dont expect to much.

Guys labled as "return specialists" generally don't get drafted period due to the fact that's all they have to offer. Teams much perfer to have a guy who can both return and perform at his assigned position if called upon. Vann is a pure returner, that's it.

Some view a guy like this as a burning hole on a roster. If he can get the job done though, I will gladly take a guy who performs return duties and nothing else.
