I'm on the Carr Bandwagon... for him being the 3rd string QB

As much as Carr has been hit in the past has he ever been charged with a phantom sack like Everett

Alex Smith is the guy and this is Smiths make or break year.. Carr is nothing more than a backup to help Smith and give us a #2 that can actually throw 30+yds with velocity.. (No dissing Hill, guy played his heart out..) Nate Davis can sit and learn from 2 #1 overall picks

I think Tim Couch would have a word with you.

Further, Carr may be a "bust," but he has been a solid back-up for a number of years now. Also, Carr was drafted onto an expansion team with perhaps the worst OL in the history of OL's.

I think he is much better than noodle arm Hill. The Niners want a QB that can stretch the field with their passes, not throw punts.

I do not expect Carr to be anything more than a back-up, and to "spice up" the QB competition, as Kawakimi put it.

But I wouldn't be surprised if we get good things from Carr. If you look at his career, it's not all that dissimilar to Alex's. In Houston, he was behind one of the worst offensive lines ever and was sacked A LOT. Much of that was probably his fault as well, but he didn't have a lot of protection.

His last three seasons as a starter resulted in him getting around an 80 QB rating, which is similar production from Alex in Alex's best two seasons. From then on, he's been a back-up to Jake Delhomme and Eli Manning, both Pro Bowl QBs that have played in Super Bowls.

Alex Smith could've EASILY followed this route. The only difference is that McCloughan remained with the 49ers and decided to stick with him. In Houston, there was a regime change and Kubiak decided to bring in Matt Schaub.

I wouldn't be surprised if Carr has been slowly building his confidence back up in the last couple seasons.

Of course, I don't really believe that David Carr could be the starter, because I'm more on the Alex Smith bandwagon, but I wouldn't be surprised if he were to somehow win the QB job.

In a division that is there for the taking, it's a nice gesture for the 49ers to keep making moves that keeps it fair for the other struggling NFC West teams.
