Prior to Paraag, the cap hell killed this franchise. Since he's been here, the 49ers have steered clear of cap hell. Believe me, the cap does exist. You need a guy like that who's a genius at writing cap friendly contracts. LA Lambs have lost a ton of talent because of the cap. They haven't done anything we haven't done. We did that splurge on the free agents and win a super bowl deal back in '94. It put us in cap hell for a decade. Having said that, football is football, and you have to make good football decisions first, before the cap can be considered. The Patriot's make good football decisions first, and then have the cap guy make it work under the cap.

with that said id 100% absolutely love to "splurge" on FAs if it meant it got us a SB. if the cost is going into cap hell then so be it. id rather be trash for 5-10 years after a SB then continuously ALMOST make it an keep coming in 2nd place whenever we get close. which is exactly all thats been happening since 2011.
its time to get #6, wev tried this method the last 11 years an it hasnt worked. time to try somethin new.

There hasn't been cap hell since we were it in in the early 90's for any team. The CBA has turned over numerous times since then. You simply retool and reshape the next year accordingly. Teams are reversing $80M in cap hell AND keeping their own and adding talent in free agents now.
Teams aren't losing players because of the cap...they're losing them to parity and to the "free" portion of "free agency." Every team loses a few quality players annually. That doesn't mean they lost them to cap hell.
A cap genius to me is a football group that approaches the cap guy and says, "These are the players we need to retain and these are the players we need to bring in to win a Championship" and the cap genius is the guy that annually figures out how to make that work through creativiely manipulating the cap, negotiations and contracts in a way that allows the football guys to build their team.
Paraag isn't doing anything any other cap guy isn't already doing. He's just doing it at a mid-tier moneyball prudent level and has for 20+ years.

No doubt that's a priority!

It's worked we were 3-1 last year vs the SB teams. All front office can do is put a champ caliber squad together with champ level HC and staff they have done that. Just need players to make the plays that are out there to be made in the end (Tartt I am looking in your direction).
