P Willy Tackles-Does that mean the D sucks?

Great players make the plays infront of them. Willis makes it look so easy. he's always around the ball. when's the last time you remeber Willis missing a tackle?

The D is pretty good, and PWIlly is one of the main reasons for that.

What sucks is when one of your safeties leads the team in tackles.

The only safety in top ten in tackles is from the Raiders the rest are all LBs. I think the Raiders rank pretty low in time of position too. but their leading tackler is in the secondary. See the differance...
If your running back and forth across the field like a madman (willis) then your always gonna have high tackles totals.
Yeah, 100 tackles in the NFL, esp. for a middle LB is nothing these days. It's close to 1,000 yards for a RB - ho, hum. If you're a MLB in the NFL and start every game, there is NO reason you shouldn't have at least 100 tackles.

That said, our defense is NOT a traditonal 3-4. This defense is designed AROUND P-Willy (see T.Spikes) so putting up 150 tackles, while nice, isn't spectacular...until you add in everything else he does on top of it. Remember, Willis is completely free to do one thing and one thing only - flow FREELY to the ballcarrier.

It's also a sign that your defense can't get off the field, something we saw a lot this year. Couple THAT with the lack of help from the offense, it also contributes to the higher probability of Willis racking up big tackle numbers.

In a 3-4, I'd rather see him hover around 100 tackles, shared with the other ILB and increase his sacks, QB pressures, forced turnovers and INT's. I'd like to see him be used more in conjunction with the other three LBers to bring the pain!

But THAT will be on Manusky next year if we are to take that next step and become a dominant 3-4 defense with exotic blitzing schemes that work, IMHO.
Our run defense is designed to have everything flow to the middle (Willis and Spikes) and for the DL to take up blockers so that it frees up our LB to get the tackles. Over all not bad that Willis gets so many tackles.

What is bad is when your SS and FS have lot of tackles and your time offense has horrible 3rd down conversion percentage and poor time of possession.

I would suspect that Willis would be very happy getting 75 tackles a year if we were scoring 35 points a game.
Tackles could be the worst stat in the NFL. Sometimes you just have to watch the games.

Individual and team stat wise Willis compares closely to Derick Smith. Are Cyclops and P Will really comparable players.

Talking a guy like Willis UP or Down by quoting his tackle totals is bad form
Ravens defense sucks.

This.

It's not the entire defenses fault that Willis doesn't let anyone by him. It's the nature of his position to roam laterally and make tackles. It shows the D is doing a good job allowing him to do that and he would be the first one to say it too.

Don't forget that the niners were dead last in time of possession. That means the D is always on the field. More tackles to be had.

But the 49ers weren't dead last in time of possession. They ranked 15th in the NFL with 29:46 Per Game (citation).

Please try harder at ignorance.

Defense takes the field after Jimmy Raye's offense does it's 3 and out. Our D ain't great yet bit you can blame the O's time of possesion for Willis' tackle numbers

Actualy that's a good thing when your LB leads your team in tackles. The D-line is doing it's job by not letting blockers get in the way of Willis.

It would be a bad thing if a DB was leading your team in tackles.

came here to say this.
