I don't know for sure, but # passes thrown to aggregates three scenarios: 1)a Completion, 2)a Pass Defended, or 3)a Dropped Pass. A pass that is defended should not be used in measuring a receiver's catching ability. A #drops/# pass thrown to can be misleading because we don't know how many thrown passes actually touch the receiver's hands. So someone please get the numbers for the ratio above...sorry for my laziness
Great point! Can you re-do provide the numbers for Davis and Crabs and also some of the top players on this list for comparison?

Well i think it gets a little too sketchy when you try to break it down to too many details. The creator of the numbers just looked at the drops, not thrown too or any of that other stuff. I mean you can probably add a thousand categories. Either way it doesnt negate the fact that in order to make that All-Pro team it's those catches that he has to make.
So if your gonna be an All Pro, then you have to play like an all pro consistently. Vd did make the pro-bowl, so as a result he's probably well on his way, depending on his numbers this year.
I say this because i remember one of the Matts were saying if he didnt miss some key passes, and passes for TD's then he could of had 90 + touches, and at least 15-18td's. I remember at least 4 games in the second half of the season where it seemed like he dropped a TD per week for a while.
So this isnt a knock on our boy, but just a lets just say what it is. He's a pro-bowler this year, with that potential to be an ALL Pro. Because with the drops I mean lets say he's thrown too 8 times in a game, and caught 6. But one of the 2 he missed was a TD throw. I'm saying who cares if he caught the other 6, because the one for the TD is what mattered the most.
So i say he and Crabs should be well on their way, and the drop numbers should be cut in half in 2010

Crabs already has 7 drops
These are perennial probowlers that are on this list too. This is an over analyzed stat. If they produce and catch touchdowns what does it matter? It doesn't.

Just glad to see some sanity here ------ these two were very productive and I would also factor in a QB who has a tendency to throw high and without any touch.

It matters. If VD had catch the Smith TD in the endzone we'd have been 9-7 and have had a shot of being in the playoffs.

Lest we forget the other important catches he made. Great players drop passes too. So no one drop doesn't make this list matter. Sorry. I'm very sure there are other plays you can put the loss on in any given game. It's a team game.

Nothing you said discounts the fact that VD catches the ball in the endzone and the 9ers win.

No it doesn't. But it also doesn't discount the fact that Alex had to throw it early due to the failure to pick up the blitz. Nor does it discount the unbelievable catches he made agianst the Vikes that should have propelled us to the win. Like I said your point is mute. One person's dropped pass doesn't make this list mean anything. Sorry.
