Ronnie49er, we are agreed on the etiology of the problem. My feelings are how could we ever know whether ANY Qb is any good with inexcusably bad OL play for 5 yrs at least... and yes, thank you scot Mc CLOWN. Ronnie, You are entitled to your opinion on Qbs, but honestly how can you assess a qb when none of them have had a fair shot because of horrid OCs yearly(7 in 7 yrs), crappy to non exsitent Qb coaches, HC who have been wretched choices, and a GM who is a scout , but is passing on the rest of his GM duties. It has grossly unfair to any of our QBs, and i feel sorry for them all. Talentwise, i give alex the nod, but is he a good qB? How could anyone possibly know with the deck so stacked against him.
and i swear, i will take out an billboard ad demanding scot's removal if scot is around for the next draft, and he somehow manages NOT to draft 2 OLs with first 2 picks. If he screws up , goes BPA on us and gets us a S and FB, i will start becoming a fan of the Boise Steelhead hockey team. NObody should be allowed to screw a team like scot has. Face it, jed, and the rest of the yorks, scot is a scout...not a GM. Get him outta here.

Who said Alex Smith is Joe Montana? We have 2 first round picks next year so who knows, perhaps a QB and an O-lineman. But then is Alex the reason the 49ers are losing games? I dunno. We have lots of wholes to fill, and that's the problem. This is creeping into the draftnik stuff but early on i would say we need:
1. RT
2. Pass rush LB
3. Safety
4. QB
1. RT
2. Pass rush LB
3. Safety
4. QB

Alex Smith has really gotten a bad deal during his tenure with the 49ers, but the fact that he still hasn't shown enough in 5 years doesn't speak well for him.
I want the better QB out of those 3 (Smith/Davis/Drafted QB) to start behind a better offensive line next year.
We have to fix the line before we draft another quarterback, or it will be a waste of time and a draft pick.
Right, let's draft some young kid, throw him into the fire to take a pounding for a couple years, so his confidence is shot. Maybe he'll even get injured and miss a couple years. Man, this sounds very familiar....can't put my finger on it....

No! I want an All Pro QB or a future all pro QB! An All Pro Offensive line with Alex Smith as a QB doesn't make sesnse!
That's like owning a Hummer with a 4 cylinder Hyundai engine, It doesn't maximize the capabilities, just not strong enough!

It makes more sense than throwing an all pro QB out there behind a line that gets him killed. I swear some of you guys just don't seem to grasp the game of football.

We have a better chance of getting an all Pro qb next year than an all pro line. The hypothetical appeal of this thread is too much.
It's more likely we will have neither.

Z's point was to start another thread to bash Smith, any other point is purely secondary in nature.

pasodoc, you are right, it is damn near impossible to access anything in this mess of an organization that is our team. Scot must go and I'll gladly chip in on the billboard if it comes to that. Frustration, I'll admit, has gotten the better of me. I do hope that Alex becomes the best he can be and lead us out of this mess but at this point he reminds me a little too much of Steve DeBerg.

If we can get one guy to the probowl- even at alternate- and the rest of the dudes holding their own on the offensive line, I'll be really happy. After what happened this year we really need more good backups more than anything else.

Yeah, I realized that before I --enter at my own risk-- thread Trying hard to accept the title at face value and not another Smith bash. The Z don't like Smith we get it.

Damn, with all the hate we hear about Smith week in and week out. You'd never think it's 80% to almost 20% for bringin him back. Makes me wonder, who actually makes up that 20 %. I bet you half if not 75% of them are either HIll backers, or Smith Haters.
