Makes a big difference what kind team you go to.

I don't buy this argument in a few cases in this league. When Vince Young was drafted by the Titans, they sucked. When Matt Ryan was drafted by ATL, they sucked.

Vince Young has the running talent to make an immediate impact on a team whereas Alex was not a runner like Vince Young. Young was basically an extension of the running game.

Matt Ryan is slightly different in that he had a very solid run-game. However, Gore wasn't exactly chop liver for Smith but our passing game was literally non-existent at key parts of games, even in 2006.

The better team case can be made for BAL rookie QB.

Now post the stats of their defenses and you'll get accurate picture why one has a winning record and the other doesn't. Keep in mind Smith got benched and the 49ers went to 7-9. Vince got benched and the Titans went to 14-2.

Actually, Smith never lost the Start Quarterback job to anything other than injury once he was the established starter.

2007 Season - Injured in week 4, played through pain after just three weeks of rest. His shoulder never healed and he played injured until being placed on IR.

2008 Season - Placed on IR prior to the 2008 season with complications from shoulder surgery in 2007.

He lost the job to O' Sullivan in 08. Out played in camp, out played in preseason.

Right because we all know that was a "real competition."

JTO was the starter as soon as Martz became fixated on him.

Both of those guys went to much better teams than Smith did, the Titans sucked Vince's first year(16th on O, 31st in D), but they were one of the top defenses the very next year(22nd O, 8th D). Matt Ryan got to go to a team good enough to rank 10th in offense and 11th in defense.Smith inherited a team ranked 30th in O and 32nd in D. I won't even go into the coaching staff of each team, we all know how whack our teams coach was.

That QB competition was as BS as the 2000 presidential election results.
this week should be really interesting to watch

Read above post. PLACED ON IR IN 08 BECAUSE HE STILL HAD A BUM SHOULDER. Jt licked Martz and Nowin for the Job and he sucked on the field too.

Smith was never benched in his entire career.
Vince was rookie of the year.

He was outplayed because he was injured. It's pretty tough to win a job with a broken bone in your shoulder.
