Yeah it's puzzling why you sign a guy for $16.5 million and then sit him at fourth, maybe 5th on the depth chart. I don't get it. But, it goes along with some other stuff going on with this franchise. I wonder if they tried to shop him around before the trade deadline?

cause we wanna be a power running team eventhough we don't have the horses to be a power running team. this offense would be better under martz with crabtree jones battle hill bruce morgan.. i mean we wanna be a power running team yet gore is always hurt every year and we got no legyt backup and our offensive line sucks... come on the niners should have just kept martz.

He's going to be our secret weapon going into this Houston game. You saw it here first.

From Barrows Blog
Quote:
Jones was one of the 49ers' few off-season acquisitions and the team is paying him - five years, $16.5 million - like a starter. Three things, however, happened after Jones was signed in March. 1.) Isaac Bruce decided to return for another season with the 49ers. 2.) The team drafted Crabtree. 3.) Jones broke his shoulder early in training camp. It's important to note that Jones wasn't getting much playing time before Crabtree was signed. But with Crabtree suddenly in the lineup, Jones gets pushed even farther down the depth chart.
sounds reasonable to me....Jones will get his turn maybe later this year but definitely next season. Bruce and Battle are on the last years of their contracts.

That's why I like Morgan. You don't hear him b***hing, yet Jones is. Too bad. Doesn't sound like team mentality. He sounds pissed because he can only contribute in ST. So what! Contribute and change your tude and you may get to play.
It sounds like he can't wait and is impatient.

The guy is starting to pout.
Sounds like he thought he would be given a starting job when he signed, and that may have been true b4 Bruce decided to come back and Crabs!!
I get the impression he's not happy and is looking for sympathy and honestly, you're not going to get it from me.
FCOL...you're getting starting money to play ST. IF HE REALLY WANTED TO START, HE WOULD DO SOMETHING ABOUT! I hate that saying, "If I were the coach, I'D be starting!" NO s**t.....who wouldn't think like that?
If you want it Brandon..........then go get it and stop expecting sh!t!!!!

Well let's look at the SOURCE of the acquisition.
Who made the decision to sign this player? Hmmm, I don't know... could it be...
SATAN!?!?......
Just kidding.
Seriously though. Scotty McC has had a TERRIBLE off-season thus far. TERRIBLE. Every acquisition has either been a bust or no-show. This is certainly a trend.
Well, Bruce and Battle are probably gone next season. So that leaves us with Crabtree, Morgan, Hill, Jones, and Spurlock. If Jones keeps his head on straight, he could be a factor next season, assuming the team doesn't try to bolster the position any further.

What are the salary cap implications if (when) we cut Jones?
Thank god for non-guaranteed contracts.

Our Offense pisses me off. We're not making anybody's playoffs the way things are going now.
