I can understand that some fans built up expectations, especially after seeing our 49ers come within a play of being a 4-0 team. I'm not sure those expectations were fair to begin with. The season is 17 weeks long. A win or a loss, no matter the score, counts for only one game in the appropriate column...
Right now, we're 3-2 and 3-0 in the division. I think if you told me before the season started, this would have been the situation, I would have been happy with that result. While I'm not excited about the result on the field today, I am certainly pleased with the accumlative results thus far this season.
This team has suffered for years. They are learning to win. Part of the learning curve is going to include losses. Some close heart breakers, some of the blow out variety.
Take your emotions out of your thoughts, and note that this team is going to compete for a playoff spot. What more was anyone really expecting?

Heres the reality, were a good Defensive team, we just played sloppy! heck, even willis, god all mighty, was silent today. Do you really think atlanta is that much better than Minnesota? than Arizona?... maybe a litle but their not that much better. we just had an off night. everything we did today was just OFF and un-characteristic of what we really are. on offence, defence, special teams, playcalling, using time outs.. everything was just OFF today. does this mean were better than them? no, not at this point but we allowed them to kick our ass!
this happens every year, every good team, or almost every good team has one of these losses per year. its happens, dont lose hope after ONE game!
yea really. Started off the game by kicking the ball out of bounds!!! That's never a good sign.

Well, fans have a tendancy (myself included) to vent after such a disppointing loss. But most of us keep it "in-house." I would defend the Niners unconditionally if confronted with a Raider fan.

Hill is an okay game manager - that is it - You think this game is bad wait until Peyton Manning gets his hands on us...that is going to SUUUUCCCKKK

Can you guys please stop posting things like this?
1. This is a Niner forum, which means we can glee about us making the super bowl after a win, and say that everyone on the roster should be cut after a loss...its what goes on in sports forums, some people more drastic than others.
2. Jumped ship? cuz we notice our offense is a joke, we jump ship? How does me saying shaun hill sucks at quaterback make me a fairweather or bandwagon fan? do you wanna argue will me that he sucks, or just call me a joke?
3. the fact that im spending my entire day talking about Niners after a huge rout, makes me a GREAT fan.

yea, if theres any doubt as to whether we need a QB, just watch any other nfl team with a legit franchise qb. Tell me you don't see a difference in the way the offense moves the ball around. Hill is obviously not the only problem we have on offense, but QB is the position that needs to be addressed the soonest. Keep bulls**tting yourself that we're a "power running team". Please. Take away those two huge runs by gore against a beat up seattle defense, and or "power running" offense is lacking some serious power. Our D isn't gonna be able to save our ass every game. We're not the ravens.
We get the ball to begin the 3rd quarter, Hill throws two horrible deep passes, then throws a short dump off on 3rd down for like a 7 yard gain. WTF? Why would you throw deep two downs, then suddenly throw underneath on 3rd down?
Funniest f**king part was that he did it AGAIN the next drive. Holy s**t.

I am not jumping ship, I am no less of a fan than you are. I am just realistic, this is a 9-7 team that can make the play-offs because it resides in a weak division. It is the best team we have had in the last 7 years, but it isn't what you would call a contender. It can thrash weak teams and beat average ones, but it needs more offensive talent to compete with the league's top teams. So to be a real fan you have to believe this team can go deep in the play-offs? Not happening until more pieces are added to the puzzle. This team is headed in the right direction, but still has a long way to go.

The year we last won the Super Bowl the Eagles beat us 40-8. No, I'm not predicting we're Super Bowl bound, but I agree this game was a fluke and we'll shoot to prove it versus Houston.
I was waiting for someone to make that comparison. This offense does not compare to that one, good try anyway. . . . I hope this game gave all the delusional fans a dose of reality.
You are right, it does not. It DOES, however, show that one game does not a season make.
People in Niner Talk Love to overreact to both wins and losses.
Are the 3 wins reality or are the 2 losses? Both, I think.
Good teams IMPROVE, particularly when they get smacked in the mouth. Let's see how this team reacts. Based on what I have seen, I remain hopeful.
Your well-thought, reasonable, level-headed post is wasted in NT C, but I feel ya.

We have a good defense. But, to expect them to play like weeks 1-4 for an entire NFL season is asking too much. The offense is a big problem. It has to be tough for the defense to stay motivated when they keep putting the offense in position to score, make plays and it keeps going 3 and out. I really don't blame Hill either. I blame Jimmy Raye. Some of those plays called yesterday were real headscratchers. And, I don't think you are going to keep your top two tailbacks healthy for an entire NFL season when you ask them to run into the pile on all of your running plays. I hope there is a lot more playbook Raye is wanting to install because there were a lot of plays yesterday where you wonder why they were called.
