oh god Hicks was the worst. What about Brandon "Fair Catch" Williams? Rossum is solid just isnt going to 'bring it to the house. Rossum is the best option right now
I'd like to see Kory Sheets on the returns.

i hope we draft a wr/rb that can be our return ace

we drafted higly collegiate return guys in derrick hamilton in '04 and brandon williams in '06...

they didn't pan out...

I totally forgot about Brandon "Fair Catch" Williams. He'd fair catch a ball even if there was no one around.
You people forget about the no wedge rule? It's a different game now. As for Sheets anyone actually been to a practice lately? I'd bet the coaching staff ran a few KR/PRs in practice with sheets to see if it's a possibility. The way Coach puts the best available on the field tells me Sheets isn't an option.

Put Rossum back in.

Battle muffed a near fumble

All Rossum did was muff one and was ordered to do that whatchamacallit play to Clements.

Thank God this guy SUCKS NOW! We have plenty of guys to return kicks and this move can keep J.Hill on the roster. I think if we're going to keep Spurlock on the roster we should give him a shot at PR/KR. Keep Walker back there and give Clements a chance or 2 per game.

I don't think I want our best DB returning punts.

I wouldn't want him doing it FT either but he does it PT now anyway. My point is we have a bunch of guys that can return kicks and shouldn't keep a specialist unless he is performing. We have an old specialist that is not performing, he may have a good career avg/2008 avg but he sucks this year benching him was the right move.

There a lot of guys that can catch a punt...until you put them in the game with guys flying around, and they have to make a split decision - catch & run, fair catch it, get away from the ball & let it roll, etc...Then you start seeing people f*ck up, because they are not experienced in this specialty.

Clements has alot of experience returning punts no reason he can't continue his PT role with a few more added on. Do you think he suddenly forgot how to return punts?

You don't risk a $$$ player and star to the return game...it will shorten their careers

Returns were great yesterday... Glad the benched Rossum, apparently you are WRONG!
It wasn't reported, but I thought that Rossum hurt a hand during the Minnesota game. That may have triggered the Battle as PR and Robinson/Walker as KR situation versus the Rams. I don't sense that Rossum's roster spot is in danger, but I could be wrong. I like Rossum. He is sure-handed and can turn 1 missed tackle into a TD at any time, as he has showed 2 weeks ago.

Jason Hill had to be activated to take the injured Reggie Smith's place on the ST coverage units. Brandon Jones needed to see some reps at game speed, and so he replaced the unproductive Spurlock on the active list.

If Crabtree signs, Spurlock could be the guy who loses his job on the 53-man roster. Spurlock was cut by Tampa Bay! What has Spurlock really done in SF? Don't tell me, show mw. But maybe Rossum is also a candidate to be cut to make room for Crabtree.

Crabtree would likely be inactive at least until after the bye. Maybe the club could get a special roster exemption for the first week after he signs, so no cuts would be needed until the bye week.

Man, I have a feeling that if given a chance he could rip another one of those long runs for a td. Let him play!

It's a safe play...especially if you don't like getting hit.

No, I don't think he forgot. But I think the 49ers remember how much money they are paying him to be their #1 cornerback, not designated crash test dummy.
